From the article: ""He came with his daughter and denied the marriage and death of his daughter. I have the photos of the girl and will show it to anyone.”
12:57 AM on 09/11/2013
Perhaps if it were better written the point would have been more clear.

I just finished 3 books written by Jean Sasson with Princess Sultana of Saudia Arabia which describes the treatment of women in that country and other countries where they are mainly Muslims. The marriage and/or rape of young girls is a fairly common practice. It seems as if the Koran is interpreted very loosely by these men. If you are interested in this subject, read "Princess", "Princess Sultana's Daughters" and "Princess Sultana's Circle". It is also available as the Princess Trilogy on Kindle at a reasonable price. Women should read this.

The practise of girls as young as 8 being given by parents to older men for marriage should be prohibited by law. India is a country with many brilliant minds....they should start using those minds to change abuse against children.

Um, Yemen =/= India.

What does India have to do with Yemen? It is on the other side of the Arabian Sea and an entirely different country.

Why should I define myself by quoting others?

Well, that is such a relief to know that the 8-year old bride survived her wedding night.

What a diseased culture to allow such a thing.

And, yes, I read that the father denied the wedding took place, but I DON'T BELIEVE HIM.

So where is the picture of the girl with her father?

Was it fabricated? Or are the Yemen officials covering up a gruesome TRUE story of the horrific side effects of child marriage? Could it be that they don't want the world to take a deeper look at why child marriage is LEGAL in Yemen? That over 25% of the girls in Yemen are married off before the age of 15, and as young as 7? And that this is LEGAL in Yemen? Many of them die EVERY year. During intercourse, pregnancy or from abuse. Maybe, just maybe, the same officials that MADE child marriage LEGAL are trying to cover up the horror of it, so the rest of the world doesn't condemn them, and they get to keep living their perverse lifestyle.

One tradition in Muslim countries women's suppression and domination start at a young age. The culture's preference for men than women is so evident.

... and so sad. I wonder why the UN or other world leaders haven't stepped in? It's gruesome.

People that don't believe such things have no idea. And that is all I will say on the subject.. A girl of that age with a much older horrifically abusive monster would easily bleed to death. You don't put someone with another three times their size, and a child at that. You just don't. I have nothing against Islam, but I wish more from that religion would speak out. Wrong is wrong no matter the culture.

Didn't stop every news outlet reporting it yesterday and jumping on the bandwagon. This is where instant 24 hour rolling news goes wrong, you strive to be the first with every story and publish anything that may shock or provoke feelings without seeking any verification.

Back in the day of print media, this kind of story would have been chased up for several hours with guys looking for sources to confirm the story before it is published in the following mornings paper... you know, the thing we once called journalism and expected as standard!

There are THOUSANDS of child marriages that take place every year in Yemen. Some of the girls as young as 7. Thankfully, this is getting media attention, it should NOT be legal and it needs to stop.

It should be illegal, but there's very little we can do to countries that have such practices, well, we can bomb them but that doesn't seem to fix the problem.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
". . . and for those who have no courses [periods] [(i.e., they are still immature) their ‘iddah is three months likewise, except in case of death] . . ." [al-Talaaq 65:4]

This is an indication that it is permissible to marry girls below the age of adolescence.

If a woman does not menstruate, either because she is very young or old and past menopause, then her ‘iddah is three months, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
