I have no sympathy for him, but at the same time do believe the justice system in this country is whack. 5 years and probation for the people involved in in the enticement and subsequent years of torture of a minor, and 50 years for the priest. It does not make sense to me.

He had a public defender.

True but ya know it really depends on the state and county. If I was a defendant in federal court, most places I would want the federal public defender. They have lower case load and are experts.

You're right. the system is screwed up big time..but I also have no symphathy for him...FF

It is a very bad idea to enroll your children in private schools that have SUPPOSED CELIBATE Priests hanging around, hiding their perversions behind Jesus' robe.

Maybe Ray Kelly and Mike Bloomberg should start a "stop and frisk" policy that profiles people who look the GOOD Rev. Ratigan.

With the new Pope actually making moves to bring the Catholic Church into the 21st Century, maybe he'll change the rules to allow priests to marry. Won't completely weed out the perverts, but it's a start.

Would be a great idea..if only he would...

More and more proof they all know it's a myth and lies so they have nothing to fear of hell and retribution by an IMAGINARY god. But, alas, we go on "believing" as if it were true......

"Prison is hell", sayeth the priest.
Where does he think he is going after he dies?
According to his religion, prison is the least of his worries. After he dies, the real punishment begins.
Charges against the diocese were dropped? Why? The organization as a whole needs to be punished. I hope the parents sue the diocese.
Finn gets a slap on the hand for enabling child sexual exploitation. That is outrageous.

Yup, another catholic priest being sent to jail for having child porno on his computer. Yet--now read this carefully--"An Iowa Protestant pastor named Brent Giroux pleaded guilty of raping four boys (and eight more have come forward with accusations). Giroux was sentenced to seventeen years. The judge immediately suspended the sentence and said the pastor could have five years probation and receive therapy instead." Why let the Protestant pastor off essentially free and put the priest in jail for 50 years? ANTI-CATHOLICISM, CATHOLIC HATERS.

Oh boo hoo, they're picking on CATHOLICS... you know had the church done what was right instead of covering it up, there probably would not be such potent venom directed at the Catholic church. So, boo hoo and live with it...

CATHOLICS deserve it... because you have not forced a change.
08:20 AM on 09/14/2013
NO! "Catholics deserve it" because they keep GIVING the Church MONEY, to allow the perversion wheels to keep on turning.
06:54 PM on 09/14/2013
No, he was one...how many priests have had their back covered by those "in charge" all the way to Rome.

Is it excessive for the crime he was convicted of? Probably. But do I believe his actual crimes ended at photographs? No, I do not. He's 47. I'd say the chances that in all those years the worst he ever did was take a photo....is quite slim.

So, do I feel any pity for what might be an unfair sentence? No.

Until the enablers are sentenced to prison time, they'll keep covering up the crimes.

I wish the hand of justice would find a way to catch all these sick people and feed them to the sharks. What they have done to these children can't be punished enough by giving them free room and board, medical and security around the clock. The children aren't compensated for the trauma they have endured, they will spend a life time with possible issues, mental, emotional and spiritually. And the jerk that inflicted it all, sits with the comforts he doesn't deserve.
05:18 PM on 09/13/2013
How about Protestant sharks? They seem to get off easy--in a sense free An Iowa Protestant pastor named Brent Giroux pleaded guilty of raping four boys (and eight more have come forward with accusations). Giroux was sentenced to seventeen years. The judge immediately suspended the sentence and said the pastor could have five years probation and receive therapy instead."
06:59 PM on 09/13/2013
What part of these sick people didn't you understand? I reflected on all sicko's that hurt any child, I don't care what religion, what faith, what color or whether you are male or female. It doesn't matter if you admit you are sick or not, probation is a slap on the wrist, and anyone can go into a therapist office and lie through their teeth about whether they are god or not. Understand, if you are guilty of anything against a child, YOU NEED TO PAY.
07:12 PM on 09/13/2013
I have no clue if my original replay got posted, but again, Does it matter if you are a pastor, a father or a mother, a brother or a sister, does it matter if you are God his self, if you hurt a child, any child, it does not matter what religion you choose to hide under, you need to be punished. Probation is only a slap on the wrist, who cares about what denomination you are, you hurt a kid, you are evil. Therapy, now that depends on who gives it and who gets it. Therapy, another guide for lies.

It is a hateful crime and a life sentence for an innocent child.... and should be a life sentence for the perpetrator.

When will people wake up? I can only imagine how much more of this exists, but hasn't been discovered yet. Don't close your eyes just because someone is a priest. It is so wrong that the diocese didn't report it immediately, but what else is new? Why do they continue to get away with these cover-ups?

And the Catholic Church just lost more members. Religion making itself less and less relevant every day.
