This is what happens when you go antidiotic happy. Over prescribed, improperly used and now our meat supply is loaded with it too! We reap what we sow.

Children are going into puberty at an earlier age than 10 years ago. Meat is absolutely full of crap that people shouldn't eat. I used to buy and sell feeder steers and I know what I used. Growth hormones, antibiotics, pesticide tags, etc. I didn't know any better then and I still feel guilty about it. I quit eating meat as soon as I became educated about the dangers.

If there is hope, it will be found in Pripyat.

I think I remember reading about cases in the Mississippi River more north centrally as well as in Minnesota.

It is definitely not a Florida-only phenomenon.

I'm not playing that!

I'll be damned if I'm going to be told by a bacterium, "Search the Force Craig, you KNOW I'm your father!".

Really weird and crazy story. I really feel sorry. RIP.

Wow. I really feel sorry for this man. I imagine he suffered horribly before he died.

May he rest in peace.

Only in Florida. Vibrio is why I stopped eating raw oysters because you never know the cold storage of the oysters was done properly in transit. This is scary:Vibrio from just wading in water.

A little boy died in Arkansas last year from bacteria in a river. Rivers get low and bacteria thrives.

All true. All bacteria need is the proper substrate and temperature and it is off to the races.

It's not only in Florida.

It can be found in various areas within the gulf and if memory serves, has been suspected of causing rapid necrotic infection incidents in the Mississippi river as well as in Minnesota.

Absolutely. I live on the west coast and do not trust ANY raw shellfish because of Vibrio.

I often call Florida 'disgusting' but I'm usually not referring to the bacteria... just another notch on FL's belt, I guess.

Come on, man. Florida has beautiful landscapes, flesh-eating bacteria, and lots of wildlife. Don't blame the land...

A few years ago in Central Florida, an otherwise healthy woman went into a hospital for a pregnancy checkup, got a variant of flesh eating bacteria and lost both hands and feet. Then there's the brain eating amoeba in warm waters there and now the river beastie.
