Who said "Never give a sucker an even break or smarten up a chump?" WC Fields, I think, but it applies here.

So according to what this f.a.t huckster said, as quoted above, this "church" raised $2.4 million in amounts of less than $100 each. Did I understand that?

Now, I am not aa math genius, but this "reverend" would have us believe that at least 240,000 people contributed $100 or less each to this outfir based on the appeal he sent out in one letter.

Is that about right? If it is, I do not believe a word of it.

You are off by a factor of 10. Dividing $2.4 million by 100, you get 24,000 people. That is not out of the question considering the size of his church.

I would suspect, however, that at least a few of the donations were over $100.

You are quite right with your calculations, and I am embarrassed!

I should have corrected it, but could not because the "reply" button was unavailable and I had moved onto other things.

Still, 24,000 contributions at $100 a pop seems pretty stout for just 2 - 3 days after one solicitation letter, and thus I agree than there must have been a number of them that were in excess of $100 as stated by Warren.

Anyway, thanks for setting me straight.

That was a typo....it was $1,000 or less. You were correct about your "I am not a math genius" part though ;). Saddleback does have 50,000+ members, so it's actually quite possible.

That makes a lot more sense. I also see where a church spokeswoman stated that virtually all of the donations were for less than $1000.

For those of you criticizing Pastor Warren: He has not taken a salary from his church for many years now. After the success of his bestselling book 'The Purpose Driven Life', he actually reimbursed the church the entire amount that he had gotten in salaries since it's inception.

Again I ask, how does a man serve God in a $1000 suit living in a mansion, when (among other things) circa 6 million people in our country are surviving on food stamps alone?

Christian is as Christian does, and Hollywood showmanship in a megachurch does not serve the Lord's commandments to aid those in need, those who hunger and have no food, those who are homeless and have no shelter, those who are sick and have no-one to care for them.

By their deeds do we know such as Rick Warren, Jerry Falwell, Jimmy Swaggert, Jim Baker, Oral Roberts, ad nauseum.

Who said he couldn't live in a mansion ? What about Heaven ? I could only imagine what that place looks like. Who said you had to be poor to be humble? What does your money and what you wear has to do with your personal faith. The idea that people who are wealthy can't have nice things because they are a minister or people are starving around the world.....Help me understand your point???

Another little fact that many seem to ignore. He has apologized but this seems to fall on deaf anti-Christian ears. You guys don't even deserve to be called atheists because you oppose everything Christian, but then show sympathy for the Dalai Lama, a religious leader who wants his theocracy back. And you don't deserve to be called Apatheist because to show apathy, you first need to understand what you are talking about.

NOT to disparage religion, BUT, Rick Warren is starting to look like another religious leader who's TRUE belief is in nothing but MONEY!
