IDK why, but she is not my cup of tea! I do not like her voice, sounds too forced, singing is an art that must be done gently and smoothly, to me it sounds like someone with no training!

That last note brought me back to her early days on AI...

The entire militaristic, jingoistic, fake patriotism surrounding this event show the fading empire in its usual self-congratulatory mode.

And is pretty clueless if the NFL wants to market their product internationally.

Oh, who cares? Gimme a break. There's nothing wrong with celebrating our country and singing the national anthem.

Unbelievable...

These are the kinds of comments that make me wonder if I'm truly a proud Liberal.

A capella is great...if you can do it, but it seems that not very many can, at least when it comes to the National Anthem. Perhaps an accompaniment should be provided through the ear phones to help guide the singer with pitch and cadence. Ms. Underwood's rendition was not the worst, to be certain, but someone should remind her that she can't pick and choose which notes and words are important enough to sing at the pitch at which they were composed. She hit most of the most of the big-time words and phrases, but forgot that some of the lesser connector words have exact notes assigned to them as well. It was tolerable until the end. That last note, though, made a filling fall out of my tooth.

The best National Anthem I've heard for the Superbowl was Faith Hill. She's also BEAUTIFUL!
11:01 AM on 02/08/2010
Do you think Faith Hill was better than Whitney Houston? i think Whitney set the standard....

Well...Whitney Houston's was outstanding, so it's hard to say...but Faith Hill's certainly met that standard. You can compare them on YouTube.

You're beautiful Carrie, but you ended in a different key...making me cringe.

she was much better than the WHO at halftime. I am a big fan of them, but it is time for those guys to give up live performances

Agreed...same for the Stones.

Yeah.....and Beethoven should have quit when he went deaf, the old coot. Would have saved us the agony of hearing that 9th Symphony over and over again.

We're talking live performances, not composing, try to pay attention.

The Who was dreadful.

She did a great job for a very tough song. I ogled her and her outfit but I hope she gets rid of those clod hoppers she was wearing.

Carrie was pretty darn good, but I think that Leann Rimes rendition a few years ago was the best I've ever heard.

Still think the national anthem should be America the Beautiful...

It should be: "Give Me Money That's What I Want"

she did well, i think. she sang it live and that's hard to do. the last note was bad, though.

No one beats this woman's rendition though. NOBODY.

Underwood's performance was pretty good. I liked it. The American National Anthem is a very difficult song to sing. Indeed, I would argue that it is one of the hardest songs to perform. It takes a very talented person to pull it off in an excellent and memorable fashion.

A bit off key especially that last note. Pretty girl, but the Elvis outfit... Blah !

"...but the Elvis outfit... "

LOL, I said the same thing to my wife. She looked like Elvis during his thin days.

I like Underwood but she was way off key a few times.

These synthetic pop stars seem to be forgetting lately that they really can't sing worth a damn .....they're totally dependent on Pro Tools to correct pitch and key issues. I guess the sound engineers haven't figured out yet how to fix bad live performances on the fly at shows like the Super Bowl or Grammies. I'm sure they're working on it though....then everything will be completely fake, just the way music industry weasels like it.
