The GOP has spent too much of the last 12 years working on deregulation of banks and wall street to work on the stuff they say is so important.
They poisoned the soup, now they want blame everyone getting sick on the people who ate it.

Exactly. The GOP has raged a 30 year war on Americans.

Looking for the truth
10:30 AM on 03/26/2010
Im not surprised at all. Republicans have no heart to tug on. They dont care about the middle class and those hurt because of their policy's under Bush. They want to put the blame for everything on the backs of the Dem's and the middle class, Where was their demand to pay for the 1.3 trillion Wars? where was their demand that the 1.4 trillion tax break they gave the top 5% be paid for? where was their demand for their 1.7 trillion Medicare drug plan to be paid for? People are hurting out here and once again Republicans dont give a d*mn, because the way they see, those people on unemployment aren't going to be giving them any money for their re-election, so why should they give them anything. But what they dont understand is its not just democrats that they are hurting, its Republicans, Independence and Democrats, its everyone and if they think those people are going to vote for them come November, after they've played games with their lives, they are sadly mistaken. Republicans dont care about you or me and they dont deserve our votes. Vote the bums out in November

So it take it that you are voting GOP in 2010. You do vote don't you assuming that you take time out from your golf game.
10:49 AM on 03/26/2010
I couldn't say it better myself. Why don't the American people, especially the majority of the ones in the Southeast and Mountain West, realize that the GOP is only for themselves, corporations, lobbyists and the wealthy. What has the GOP done for the poor and middle class other than step on our backs and kick us when we are down.
11:26 AM on 03/26/2010
Are you braindead? Your President just offered you and 31 million other chumps to the very Insurance industry he claims to despise. He slams insurance companies in public while cutting back room deals that force you to buy their product, and if you don't he puts the IRS in charge to fine you or put you in jail. And you blame the GOP? Democrats own this healthcare scam all by themselves. And you are to stoopid to see it. And it's not like he is hiding it. The Democrats did this and you knew those deals were being cut and yet you support this kind of thievery? Not only that, you tell others how good this is for them. Man, are you a zombie.

Don't you Libs. know everyone has a job in the great state of Oklahoma ?
10:29 AM on 03/26/2010
It is not fair for one person to make more than another person simply because of job title. CEOs put their trash on the curb like everyone else and rely on the garbage man to take it away. Since all jobs are equally important, everyone should get an equal share of the pie. The government could save a lot of time and money by just taking all of our income and then redistribute it fairly.

Addtionally, it is not the uneployed's fault that they are out of work, and it is ridiculous to think that it is okay for them to be underemployed just so they will not receive benefits from the government. If a Civil Planner used to make $100K per year and is unemployed, he (or she) should receive benefits until a job of at least $100K is offered to him. It is an insult for a Civil Planner to work at McDonalds.

Where is Marx and Lenin when you need them?

I'd just take the money that usually goes to Israel and use it to pay for the unemployment benefits.
Two problems solved at once.
10:22 AM on 03/26/2010
they could pay for the benefits with tariffs on imports from china. it's the biggest reason for all the unemployment anyways
10:19 AM on 03/26/2010
How long should unemployment benefits be extended? Should there be any cap?

This funding can not go on forever but you also should not kick people while they are down. With 10% unemployment you have to do something. This is an emergency.

If your house was burning down would you stop for a moment to think about conserving water?

When the GOP was is power they never tried to stop the Bush tax cuts that gave billions to 1% of the US households.

I guess in Republican logic rich folks need money right away and the poor folks can just wait.
10:29 AM on 03/26/2010
What difference does "how long" make? These people need help. The cap should be for as long as its needed until the country stops fighting the government and let it help them. You're not sacrificing THAT much. I pay taxes too. So many people act as if though the hundred or so they pay in taxes is taken to fund the country. Mine nor yours helps ANYTHING until it's combined with others. Please.

Too bad there aren't many Democrats in Oklahoma. Since Senator Coburn is denying benefits to those who are suffering it would be a great platform to run on for a Democratic Senatorial candidate against him. The guy is out of touch and cruel in his legislative record, walking lock step with the party line at the expense of his constituents. But I understand Oklahoma is one of those GOP kingdoms and Democrats are far and few in between. Sigh.

"The real thing going on outside Washington is the fear that that's happening to us."

And where do all the U.S. citizens, mostly Repugs, get that fear--from Repug leadership. Rove set them on a mission of fearmongering a decade ago and it's still working on some of the dummies. It's never explained to them that half our debt is owed to ourselves as a means of constantly upgrading to secure our spot among worldwide competition and that those investments combined with eliminating excessive waste come back as wealth well into the future.

Repugs would rather the whole ship go down in a stranglehold because it would be easier to finish the corporate takeover of America they started with their rule. That's why they get their pants in bind every time they lose control of office and act like snakes being evacuated from their nest. It ruins their plan.
10:10 AM on 03/26/2010
Still waiting for the republicans to start putting all these great ideas they have for solving all our problems on the table. And waiting.... and waiting... and yawn....

Seems like SSDD to me.

When your in a hole and want to get out, you just stop digging. What is Barry doing to get us out of this hole? Debt = 90% of GDP . He just added trillions more and keeps digging the hole deeper.

Grow up people. Stop the snarky, childish rhetoric and behavior and realize everyones future economic security is in danger.

Calling the President "Barry" seems like an example of the very kind of snarky, childish rhetoric and behavior that you're talking about.
10:25 AM on 03/26/2010
Funny, he went by Barry most of his life. Where is the problem in calling him Barry? Obviously, he didn't have issues with it.

Deut. 15:7. If there is a poor man among you, one of your brothers, in any of the towns of the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart, nor close your hand to your poor brother; but you shall freely open your hand to him, and generously lend him sufficient for his need in whatever he lacks.
