Models are always boyish, androgynous beings who are super skinny… we cant even clearly tell which one is the subject of the story is (and more power to her). What would be revolutionary is if Givenchy actually put a normal woman in the ad, not a plus size mind you, but a size 6 perhaps?

I'm guessing 2nd from left in both pics: the one that looks (most) like Marilyn Manson.

All very heroin-chic.
And androgynous.
Excellent representations of society at large, right?

@31Blue

Exactly. Why do some of these people have the nerve to become upset when they share what once was a private matter, with the public?
01:52 PM on 05/30/2010
Probably because some people don't choose to share it, but in the course of their living their lives and following their dreams have their past splashed across the papers because people like to think it's about deception. A human being living their lives as who they are has nothing to do with trying to fool anyone. They would be who they are if they never came across you.

This is a positive development for transgendered people! And the fact that some of the commenters said they couldn't tell which model was transgender just proves the point that it shouldn't matter.
12:14 PM on 05/07/2010
excellent point.
12:43 PM on 05/07/2010
Not such a positive development for women when a transgendered person is used as a fit model. Biologically men have narrow hips and broad shoulders, and women have curvier hips. It is actually quite hurtful that the ideal female form is biologically male.

@lucyskye

Bingo!
01:56 PM on 05/30/2010
Since when do all biological women have wide hips or big breasts for that matter? Every person born female is not curvy and since the women who are fit models are built with slight measurements anyway, I don't think blaming a transsexual person for the female state of affairs in fashion makes much sense.

They all appear androgenous to me. And odds are they're all gay anyway, so what difference does it really make? The "women" are all homely, and the "men" are all effeminate.

The "difference it makes" is that gender expression (or lack thereof) and sexuality are two totally separate constructs. And then too, this is artistic expression mainly via the fashion designer and the photographer. We do not know how the models present in their real lives. Perhaps they're less "homely" and "effeminate." Just a consideration...
