Lame. 75-80% of the Internet uses flash and it HTML 5 isn't even fully used by Apple, as it's a work in progress. Lame fanboys doing a Chicken Little routine.

Tablet computers have been around for a while, Apple made the first one that sold well because it is a solid device. There is room for improvement though.

As far as running Win 7, well, Win 7 is scalable and allows for more compatibility - at power consumption's expense. I don't know what to think of this tablet, I would rather get a convertible one piece tablet/netbook. Nothing great in that market yet. I am looking forward to more copy/improvements off of Apple's innovation. As a consumer, I don't care who made it first. I will buy what suits my needs.

Lot of the "tablets" used a stylus as an input device. The Ipad touchscreen is really the key to why these things are soooo damned addictive and really the future of casual computing. Im just hoping that the ones coming down the pipe are as good or better than the Ipad. I don't normally buy apple products because I dont like being so closely tied to a vendor with an item...but the Ipad is damn good. If nobody beats it Im buying one.

Invented the netbook? What does that mean? Apple has the glitz, commercials and quality backing Asus is cheap and will not advertise. Asian models won't do it.

Asus cannot compete with iPad they are nobodies with no support or accessories . Apple is all about accessories.

Isn't the ipad just a netbook that won't fold? And with a real keyboard? And multitasking?

Bwa hahaha Nobodies who spank Apple's piddly 8% total OS market. How long has Apple sold computers again? Since like, 1984. 1984 and they STILL only have single digit numbers. Meanwhile, Windows 7 has managed to get double digits in only 10 months! Oh, but, yeah... people are buying Macs. EVERYBODY'S buying Macs. ;-)
05:20 AM on 06/01/2010
Mslop plays dirty pool in the OS market. Forcing vendors to put Windows on all their boxes.

Apple plays stupid pool, not licensing their OS to anyone. Pretending they're monster IBM. Even IBM isn't IBM anymore.

Glad to see them finally rolling out alternatives in earnest. Ive been raving about the Ipad because it deserves it, however Ive waited to pull the trigger on one as I wanted to see what came out in competition. The windows thing bugs me. I dunno how well the touchscreen will work running on windows. Its a HUGE program and I just dont know how stable or responsive it will be. Having said that Im speculating without using it yet, something I have criticized a lot of apple haters for doing. I am definitely gonna give this thing a shot. The google pad looks promising as well. I just hope they embrace the touchscreen interface as the Ipad has. Anyone know anythin about Windows 7 touchscreen capabilitys?

2 millions iPads sold and counting.
They are beating Wall St. estimates by 162%!
They can't meet the demand.
Just when everyone comes out with their G1 tablets Apple will already be bringing their G2 to market.
This is how they have kept the iPhone and iPod vital.
It now seems pretty clear that the massive success of the iPad signals the beginning of a serious change in portable computing.
Jobs will be very visible in the coming days with a keynote on June 7 and a sit down interview with Walt Mossberg.
Apple is still gaining momentum.

from the description the Asus already can multi-task, HAS a camera and can run Flash. Hate to tell you but this IS G2...and no doubt they will have G# and 4 out before apple releases G3 of the iplod. of course it is selling big with no compitition in that market.

I'm sure Asus will make a valient effort, I'm just not confident the putting Windows on a device like this will help. Unless MS has found a way to bring a cleaner and smoother environment to the tablet world. I'm not an Apple person, but I have to say the "swipe scroll" is pretty darn cool, and so is mult-touch...

Windows 7 was constructed with touch screen capabilities, most just haven't utilized because of the lack of devices.

I agree but if you have used an iPad you know how awesome this could be but is not quite yet. I am always using my iPad but it has deliberately been hobbled. The amazing Apps you can download, many for free, mitigates but does not overcome the limits. A full scale Windows 7 tablet could work IF the battery life is 6 hours playing Flash.

The lack of Flash is a real pain on the iPad. Yet I love using my iPad. I would most certainly look at the Asus and other tablets.
10:24 PM on 06/01/2010
How many major websites that have flash don't have a HTML5 version to see on the ipad. Because it doesn't sound like that many. The battery life is 10 hrs on the ipad running a video. What major sites are you missing out on? Why not be happy that you have a item that is forward thinking, trying to get rid of the plug-in environment (MS silverlight, flash, etc) and wont be outdated in 3 years? Flash is not the end all be all on the web. Besides most videos on the net can be viewed on youtube so why is Flash such an issue?

Good for them, but it still uses a MS OS, so how much fun it that?

All these additional "Pad's" will only add to the BLING of Apple's iPad; which is the ONE that will continue to be the gold standard and most desired Worldwide...

I've had my iPad for months and I have no idea how their customer service is because I have never needed it and if it is anything like my other apple products I probably never will. But the one time I needed to chat with Apple they were AMAZING!

Dropping the "i" anything "killer" would be a welcomed change. Not an Apple hater, and I know their products are sometimes seen as the leading edge in innovative tech, but please...enough of the "iPad, iPhone, "i" whatever killer headlines. Companies are simply trying to one up the other, and you would think price for even a slightly similar capability product is what's going to make or break you choice wise. The O/S issue is a matter of personal preference, but simple access to the Internet, and color (as an e-reader), and I'm good.

exactly, but O/s is a better system and has a simpler command structure. I still would like to have real connectivity almost transparent for Smart phone, EEE, laptop to DVR and TV/ Stereo. We all have this stuff but connectivity for someone who is not an IT manager is challenging

BTW: Here are two good examples of things getting easier:

1. Apple TV has made it very easy for many non tech folks to stream content (music movies, photo and much more from their Computer to their TV wirelessly.

2. Apple's Airport Extreme allows effortless backup of multiple computers wirelessly.

Ease of use is what Apple does best and that is what really separate Apple from the others...

I am interested as i am not in the least interested in Apple. One can by a docking like station which would transform it into a laptop. Not bad.
