You can spin it all you want Rand, but if you are willing to tolerate racial/ethnic discrimination you are a bigot. To do so in the name of liberty is the worse kind of hypocrisy.

Yeah, this guy is an idealist, but so was Don Quixote.

On YouTube, I've talked to these Tea Party people who argue that the Public Accomodations Laws are a form of White slavery since they mandate that a business must serve all people equally: "forcing someone to do something = slavery," someone on YouTube told me. These are the vile creatures just waiting for Dr. Paul to enable their racism.

Strong, unadulterated property rights from an abstract, Olympian perspective are wonderful, but unfortunately because of the reality of racism in America, the implementation of these "ideals" at the ground level would have catastrophic consequences. If Paul cannot comprehend this, if he cannot balance his high minded principles against the well-being of real people, then he should get out of politics right now.

He cites the freedom to smoke in estasblishments as an example of intrusive government, but he fails to realize that most legislation of that type is not federal but local. So he wants most laws to be handled locally but not the ones he doesn't agree with?

I am a liberal. I like Rand though. I think that "idealism" is sometimes misconstrued. What he said on Rachel's show , can be construed very differently, by different folks. What I heard was a man with convictions. I abhore folks who compromise on what they hold dear , to earn few votes. If those convictions are not main stream , he will not be elected. But I rather have some one who is true to him/herself rather than a closseted some body else.

"What I heard was a man with convictions." I agree, so he should just come clean on what institutionalizing his convictions mean for the citizens that he is perfectly willing to allow to be discriminated against in the name of individual liberty. He shouldn't need to spin his beliefs to make them seem less dangerous.

wow, seems Rand Paul has had some time to think and realize that "hey, this civil right thing, it's doesn't just protect African-americans, but it can can be applied to all americans."

Funny he is fine with Gov't intrusion into a woman's pregnancy. I guess we need to let Gov't manage those decisions, but not whether or not McD's includes calorie counts on their menu.

Has Rand Paul ever said anything about the federal government's drug prohibitions? What about that infringement on personal liberty? If RP opposes ant-smoking laws for restaurants and maximum salt content, but stays silent on our massive human rights violation that is the drug war, he is a weak-kneed politician with no principles. And our media, entirely dominated by private businesses that he lionizes, is somehow liberal...even if it were, maybe he should stick to his philosophy and stop whining about it.

Of course, when you're accused of racism, you obviously should compare yourself to the greatest civil rights leader in the history of the nation. Naturally.
