"Axelrod tells NBC's "Meet the Press" that the president will lay out steps that the government will take to cope with the fallout from the spill." for obama that means political steps to minimize the negative fallout from his abysmal handling of the crisis.
04:27 AM on 06/14/2010
Should Obama have just shouted panicked atrocities at BP? Then you would have complained that he doesn't have the temperament to even be our President. There's nothing anyone could have done to minimize the damage in the short term. I have complete confidence that Obama will do the RIGHT things over the long term.

There is nothing he can do until relief wells are drilled...which will take months...and probably several tries...even in shallow water its no easy task...this is what it will take, period

Hyperventilating over something out of his control is asinine.

Forget about the leak and look at what IS NOT being done to keep oil from washing up on the beaches of four states. THAT is what he has some control of - or should, at least, if he really is taking responsibility for this mess.

Isn't it interesting how his opponents all whine that he's not saying anything, and then when he decides to say something, they whine that it's just talk? You guys sure have bashing down to a science, I must say.

but the people there in LA would dearly love some action - are they just whining? listen to this and then decide:

from another poster, who lives there in LA:

For those who actually want to know what is going on, instead of just throwing arrows at the "other", this is an excellent link. It is a senate hearing.

OK, here goes, I watched the testimony of Billy Nungesser in this senate hearing of this past week.

Must see viewing!

Billy's testimony was so moving I can't recommend enough that each and every individual who reads this, watches the 11 minute video please, please, and please!

I have to warn people of one specific segment of Billy's testimony is going to really make people blow a gasket.

Billy talks of bp sending in a cleanup crew into the Louisiana marshland for oil removal, were found by fishermen throwing Pelican eggs at each other. These fishermen put a stop to the unconscionable behavior by these punks, and were sent packing!

Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Subcmte.

Billy Nungesser testimony start time 53:00 minutes
finish time 64:00 minutes

How can you say it's not his problem? It affects the US, it affects our waters, beaches, wildlife. BP caused this problem, they are responsible for paying for this problem but to say it's not Obama's problem? What's the purpose of having a President?

Here's an idea, cut any red tape that prevents Jindal or any local government from employing their ideas to try and clean up some of it.

Start handing out hazmat suits to the thousands of volunteers that want to help. Allow other countries to come in and start skimming the water. They'll do it, it's free oil.

Call it a national disaster.. He hasn't even done that yet.
12:52 AM on 06/14/2010
the massive power of the United States government and all Obama can do is give a fancy speech. Im sure you're right Obama. there is nothing else we as a nation can do. its all up to BP. we dont want to step on their toes and embarrass them. so just give a speech. sit on the sidelines and watch a private corporation literally kill the gulf of mexico. thanx.
12:59 AM on 06/14/2010
Sometimes a speech is a proposal and the statement of an action plan towards measurable results. It is, sometimes, the culmination of careful study, proper prudence and patience concerning others taking the rightful lead in response to any realized disaster or catastrophe. A knee jerk reaction is what American deployment to Iraq was. Actually it was a ruse posing as a knee jerk reaction, but -- we know this…let me not dillydally on the known. Let us wait and see what the president will say. Perhaps his speech will linger beyond the utterance of the words contained therein to chart bold new courses, and to set vibrant new tones in this, the fabric of our lives.

Are you for real?

In case you didn't notice... The Gulf of Mexico is in the USA not "Iraq" and being SWALLOWED in oil at a rate of possibly a MILLION GALLONS PER DAY!

Just how much more "careful study", "prudence" and "patience" do you think it can take?!!!

Here's a little example of what Obama's administration has brought us... THIS OIL DISASTER FOR ONE...

President Obama:
We are just a tad over this Bush-Lite thing. We know that when the Halliburton White House was sold to Goldman Sachs for $7 Trillion that you had to put Larry Summers, the architect of the Russian Oilgarchy in place.
We don't need another lecture from Professor Obama; we need a leader with a spine to get us out of the Wars, clean up the Gulf and stop the insanity of the Republican Cults of Jesus with the Ayatollah Jan Brewer of the 7 Mountains Mandate of Domion and hate working to discredit you along with the rest of the Republican Cults of Jesus Inc. We could use some of that lithium to treat the Republican's mental disorder. You know that silly religious addiction they share.

"Like the attacks by Al Qaeda, the disaster in the Gulf was preceded by ample warnings – yet the administration had ignored them. Instead of cracking down on MMS, as he had vowed to do even before taking office, Obama left in place many of the top officials who oversaw the agency's culture of corruption. He permitted it to rubber-stamp dangerous drilling operations by BP – a firm with the worst safety record of any oil company – with virtually no environmental safeguards, using industry-friendly regulations drafted during the Bush years. He calibrated his response to the Gulf spill based on flawed and misleading estimates from BP – and then deployed his top aides to lowball the flow rate at a laughable 5,000 barrels a day, long after the best science made clear this catastrophe would eclipse the Exxon Valdez." --- http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/17390/111965?RS_show_page=0

No joke... It's truly amazing how many people have decided for me what political party I belong to and what station I must watch, etc.... What's funniest about that, is they actually believe those childish retorts to be a credible defense against what I am posting.

Unfortunately, they are 'stuck' on the 'gotta support your man' idea, which has NO place in our democracy. Apparently, they don't understand the concept of 'country before party'... And neither does Obama!

"Too late" indeed!

He's credibility is completely gone as far as I'm concerned (and many of his prior supporters). Not to mention that his administration played an instrumental part in bringing us this disaster -- http://www.wsws.org/articles/2010/may2010/oilr-m10.shtml

But even scarier:

"Most troubling of all, the government has allowed BP to continue deep-sea production at its Atlantis rig – one of the world's largest oil platforms. Capable of drawing 200,000 barrels a day from the seafloor, Atlantis is located only 150 miles off the coast of Louisiana, in waters nearly 2,000 feet deeper than BP drilled at Deepwater Horizon. According to congressional documents, the platform lacks required engineering certification for as much as 90 percent of its subsea components – a flaw that internal BP documents reveal could lead to "catastrophic" errors. In a May 19th letter to Salazar, 26 congressmen called for the rig to be shut down immediately. "We are very concerned," they wrote, "that the tragedy at Deepwater Horizon could foreshadow an accident at BP Atlantis." -- http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/17390/111965?RS_show_page=0
