A ruckus maker for the left...the far left
02:10 AM on 06/21/2010
I see a lot of people jumping on the players for this, but I think most of the blame lands with Domenech. Yes, the coach makes the decisions, but when he makes damn stupid ones, players have a right to question his decision. I'm glad the French are doing this and standing together for their teammate. When you are one of the top ten teams in the world and you haven't won a game, I think it's time to question the coach's decisions, and I bet most of the French people back home, while groaning, agree that sending Anelka home was a damn stupid decision. I'd be surprised if Domenech survives more than a few minutes when the French land back in Paris after the tournament.

The coach is trying to make one *deserved* comeuppance his excuse for his team's poor showing.

Way to show leadership there, coachie.

The exclusion wasnt Domenech's decision. sigh. Another Soccer Noob.

Is striking in team sports a French specialty?..not quite:
MLB 1972
MLB 1994
NFL 1987
NHL 2004
NBA 1998

The French still have a long way to go before they event compare to the US pro sport leagues in this matter. Who are the quitters?
01:50 AM on 06/21/2010
The french don't quit. They surrender and then work with those they surrendered to.

Typical French pride.
They all want to be the proverbial taxi driver, insulting tourists at the cost of their tips.

That the coach's ego couldn't handle the player's outburst says more about the coach than the player.

The World Cup is over for France, barring a stroke of luck.

The coaching career of Domenech should be over as well, barring a stuck guillotine.

When trying to insult someone, you stick to one thing. You try not to stutter. Being French you should know about insulting people. And being French you should be used to getting insulted.

Many people are surprised by this but not me. I've been following the France team since I was a kid, and I knew before World Cup 2006 (before Zidane came out of retirement) when the team was inept that Domenech and whomever hired him (The FFF, mainly Jean-Pierre Escalettes) were idiots. I knew it would eventually end in disaster. Since World Cup 2006 when Zidane retired they have been poor. They barely made it into Euro 2008 and lost all three games, scoring one goal. Then to the worlds disbelief Domenech kept his job, (due to Escalettes), proposing to his girlfriend on national tv instead of explaining why the team stunk so bad. And now this. When you look at the entire picture this is no surprise. Domenech must go and Escalettes too, or he will sabotage the next coach Laurent Blanc

This happened to Ireland in 2002 World Cup when their star player Roy Keane was sent home by their manager for exactly the same thing. Although a couple of others sympathized with Keane, the rest of the players simply got on with it. Ireland got out of their group and for a couple of weeks brought excitement and happiness to millions of people back home.

Like most other teams sports there is a place for players expressing their views, but a football team is not a democracy - one person, the coach, is the leader and makes all the important decisions. If a player publicly disrespects the coach and challenges his authority, he should be removed for the welfare of the group. This French team has degenerated into a group of overpaid, oversized egos, who have little or no concern for the millions of French football fans who want to see their country do well at the World Cup.

Well said.
These players don't even realize that they are hurting their market value big time with this behavior.
Theses things will be settled in time.
The coach though share responsibility in this debacle.

I thought we were talking about soccer here.
Do you want to start talking about Tour De France?
The only TdF winner in history to be stripped of his title is an American: Floyd Landis. Really beautiful! Who's the cheater here?
Next is Lance Armstrong...

I suggest you come back with something better.

You still have the French Open Tennis Tournament..........OH Yeah, you can't win that either.

And then you also have Jean Van de Velde in Golf. Is there any athletic contest you can win?

This is how a team is supposed to act. You don't throw your teammate under the bus whether you like them or not. You always have you teammate's back no matter what, bottom line. Good for them I'm glad someone in the world still knows how to act.

The coach may be bad, but Anelka did curse him out. There is plenty of blame to go around. These guys place for France not their egos. Is their little outburst going to solve their problems.

you play for your team and team mates first. If you don't protect your team mates then there is no team cohesion. The coach is replaceable. if anyone should go its the coach.
