A 3 yo would never think of that. More like junior high.

The "ex-gay"/anti-gay/treatment model causes grief, causes suicides. It's an affront to the love, respect, and tolerance that religions claim to teach. Thank you, Lavender Magazine, for exposing this hypocrisy.

Very sad. I believe if he was trying to get help for what he considered his "problem," he should have never lost his job. It's like telling an addict that they should not get help for their addiction. Before the gay police decide to reply that "being gay is not an addiction,' etc. etc. and so on, please first take into consideration that I never said it was. This pastor feels as if HE is being tempted by something that HE feel is an abomination to HIS lifestyle. He obviously feels that he can be helped, or at least kept on track by attending a support group where there are others who also feels the way that he does. As long as he is not openly preaching to a congregation against homosexuality because he feels that it is not the will of God, he should not be punished for admitting his temptations. If the support group helps him remain focused, allows him to admit he has thoughts of homosexual desire, but he's admitting this so that he will not stray, the the church should hold him up as an example of what they would expect a homosexual to do as opposed to fire him because he admits a sin. According to the Bible we were born into sin and it sounds as if he was trying to repent and remain faithful. A least he is no Ted Haggart who now has 2 full time babysitters to keep him from men.

******As long as he is not openly preaching to a congregation against homosexuality......*********

The article says he is "ardently critical of allowing gays into the clergy". If that is not openly preaching .......against homosexuality, pray tell what is?
One day he will realize that his "struggle" is unnecessary because the church is dead wrong on this issue. Everyone please read WHAT THE BIBLE REALLY SAYS ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY by Daniel Helmeniak, a former priest. You will never think the same about the Bible and homosexuality again.
Of course, that's what religious conservatives are afraid of having vested so much of their "faith" in this issue.

So we should just forget Leviticus?
09:24 AM on 06/25/2010
The bible is clear about what God thinks about homosexuality. Daniel Helmeniak did not write the bible; you only read his opinion.

Ongoing, festering self loathing and hate. What a way to live. He should do like the song says and 'Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think'.

First of all, SO not shocking that an anti-gay clergy is himself struggling with his sexuality. Second- it's so sad that he just can't let himself be who he is. There is no shame in homosexuality, there is only shame on hiding it and being untrue to yourself and others that you condemn.
Do what you want to yourself- be miserable, but don't you dare tell others how they should live.

This is just further evidence of the poison of religion. It poisons you. Then you take your poison and spread it around the community. The irony is these jerks keep telling everyone Christianity is all about love. Ha! It's clearly about hate, self and then others not like you. Pathetic.
09:39 AM on 06/25/2010
To be a true Christian is to love regardless. The problem is, so called Christians make Christianity look bad. A true Christian could never spread hate.

Think it's safe by now to assume that anyone who uses a bully authoritarian pulpit to denounce gays, be they clergy, politician, or pundit, is a self-loathing, closeted homosexual who is demonstrating the neurotic defense mechanism of reaction-formation.

Who else has the time or energy to be such a bigot? Those sure enough in our sexuality to not seek to persecute others have better things to do... like, I don't know, maybe enjoy sex with someone.

And yes, sure we can all fill-in-the-blanks with many an anti-gay figurehead at this point. Go ahead, the big, scary voices of doom tend to shrink when greeted with laughter.
