Israel's raid on the Turkish Flotilla crimes were no less than a disaster for Israel, a PR nightmare - a look at the results,

1- Exposed the Israeli regime with the UN and the US calling for an independent and credible inquiry.

2- Cost Israel an important ally - Turkey.

3- Received condemnation by the entire world - with France and Britain .

4- Forced easing the illegal confiscation of good to Gaza.

5- Forced Israel to conduct a false inquiry with humorous results.

Anybody who argues that it was a popular attack - even by US standards - really needs to go to the doctor.

Believe it or not - a good number of religious Jews are united, not just against the botched up Flotilla raid, rather against their government entirely,

For starters, I don't dress up as an orthodox Jew - not sure where your ingenious deduction skills prompted you to gather that!

I know it hurts to know that there are still Good Jews who actually do practice and believe in their holy book and Moses Ten commandments,

You shall not murder

You shall not steal

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor

You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor

Why is that?
Could it be that Israel keeps using the ACE when it comes to politics, which is the support from the US government.

If you ACTUALLY think that Israel has done NOTHING wrong, you are so uninformed it scares me. It's not just the Arabs that boycott Israel. You'd be surprised how many people actually know what's going on in the region and think that Israel should just back down and give back the region THEY STOLE.

Leaked Luntz Poll: Majority of Americans don’t support Israeli flotilla raid.

Via Didi Remez (whose Coteret blog has become an indispensable resource for progressives on Israel-Palestine issues), Israel’s Channel Ten TV News was leaked a memo on a Frank Luntz poll commissioned by the right-wing propaganda outfit The Israel Project analyzing the effectiveness of the Israeli government’s public diplomacy efforts around the Gaza flotilla raid.

A summary of the findings:

1. 56% of Americans agree with the claim that there is a humanitarian crisis in Gaza;
2. 43% of Americans agree with the claim that people in Gaza are starving;
3. 34% of Americans support the Israeli operation against the Flotilla;
4. 20% of Americans “felt support” for Israel following announcement of easing of Gaza closure.

Israel got crushed in the post-flotilla U.S. poll. They got CRUSHED in European polls.
They got so scared, they hired famous GOP pollsters (guess who) to tell them why they'e GOING DOWN, both Before and After the flotilla.

He said basically, "uh, because you're perceived to be brutal criminals"

Gallup conducted a "favorability" poll of 20 countries, i.e. they polled likely US voters asking them whether they viewed different countries favorably or unfavorably.

Unlike the extreme left, Americans view Israel very favorably. The Palestinian Authority was viewed unfavorably, just below Iraq and Yemen.

I can just imagine the results if the question referred to Hamas rather than the Palestinian Authority/

Blind support for Israel, particularly among non-Jewish/Zionist people, is a function of many factors: real lack of historical and political knowledge, extreme Judaeo-Christian biases; a virtual Zionist monopoly on news and information or propaganda for generations, a holocaust rather than a WWII narrative pushed or given priority for 65 years; Hollywood and academia; natural racism, consciously or subconsciously, against darker complexioned people; and, considerable and growing Zionist wealth, power, and status over 125 years in the West, without much competition until relatively recently in the USA, among others.

My admiration for your personal integrity survives disagreement on important issues, Mr. Hitchens.

Two facts of the history of Jews and Muslims in Israel compel me to disagree.

1. Muslim armies attacked the new state of Israel and lost the ensuing war. That gives Israel title to all lands in dispute in that war. That's the rule of war that no legislation has ever been able to change.

2. If Muslims laid down their weapons and approached Israel in their proper role as defeated combatants in a war, peace would follow---on Israeli terms as is appropriate for the winner of the war. If Israel laid down its weapons, Israel would cease to exist shortly thereafter.

If zionist settlers were not allowed to come to palestine by British colonialists to build a "jewish state" and palestine achieved independence by league of nations in 1920's there would only be Palestine.

Also, after germany lost the war in WWII was it broken up and given to neighboring countries? After Iraq invaded Kuwait and lost the war to the allied forces was it given to Kuwait and Allies nations? Western colonialism was suppose to have ended a long time ago.

Yes, the Balfour agreement was a British document, but the League of Nations mandated that the British have the following task:

One need only remember this admission by Israeli General Matitiahu Peled

I'm usually highly skeptical when I see quotes from people who are influential zionists or leaders in Israel, because so many are taken out of context/distorted/simply were never said. Nevertheless, I was interested in seeing WHEN this was said, because that is rather significant for understanding context.

NOT surprisingly, General Peled supposedly said this in an interview with Ma'ariv in 1972! a year before the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War. It was supposedly said (the quote comes from David Hirst, according to google) during inter-war years following the stunning and unexpected victory in 1967. Of course he would have had an interest in selling the point of Israeli power. Israeli doctrine at the time was about deterrence through the appearance of strength. When the Egypt and Syria invaded on Yom Kippur of 1973, the Israelis were utterly and completely stunned.

Israel suffers from this dual-mentality of complete vulnerability and overwhelming strength. Why? Because today they have a powerful and modern army, yes. But they live in a tiny stretch of land, with no strategic depth to it. Should the army be unsuccessful, they are completely exposed. The only reason Israel has survived as long as it has is because the Arabs never managed to truly fight cohesively, and because Israel is serious about maintaining its edge. The moment they settle down and think they are untouchable, as you suggest they are, that is when they are slapped awake by another threat.
