Better dead than red...

This "softening" of his rhetoric is just a reaffirmation of what many, like me, have suspected for a long time and that is the fact that the vast majority of Americans don't agree with his politics.

Most people feel bad about unemployment and know someone affected by it so when they see these clowns play games with extending benefits most people see this as wrong. Most people also understand that GWB's tax cuts and deficit spending were not such a hot idea; Bill Gates was doing pretty well before he got all those extra millions and it's doubtful that we're going to see him in a breadline if the tax cuts are allowed to expire.

The same common folks who are concerned about the deficit know that the R's are hypocrites for holding up payments to people who are down and out on the grounds that it expands the deficits but seem perfectly willing to spend hundreds of times that to give Oprah another tax cut for very questionable gain.

The majority of people aren't R's. Take a look at the poll numbers for Bush on his way out; somewhere around 30%. That's who the R's are. The other 70% are open minded compassionate people who would cringe if confronted with the reality of Paul's positions. That's why he's "softening" his rhetoric. He himself has changed not at all nor is he likely too.

Rand Paul got himself as political consultant who told him to walk back from the ledge.

Is the question, is RP getting soft in the head? Think he always has been!

You constantly hear that unemployment is high, but Obama inherited those unemployment figures that was created by the previous administration. and with obstructionist Republicans doing whatever they can to destroy this country on the basis of trying to regain power, should be an eye opener to people, but people don't know much about politics and the dirty deeds the republicans are doing.

Apparently you don't know much about politics either, or you would not make such glaring mis-statements publicly.

Will someone please explain the logic of someone who claims she is a registered Democrat but yet proudly proclaims she votes Republican 99% of the time - as the woman did in this article.

Doesn't that describe 50% of the democratic senators?

Especially if your name is Ben Nelson. Isn't it ironic that Republican turned Democrat Senator Spectre had a better Democrat voting record than a lot of so-called Democrats

The party softened his views for him. Partisan politics has brought our nation to a stand still. We need to get the likes of McConnell and all the old power brokers out of our government and start with candidates that will turn away corporate campaign contributions and their lobbyists.

I think the term should be "going McCain". I used to admire McCain for his independent views and then he sold his soul to get the repub nomination in 2008.

This is what happens when your beliefs have no bearing on reality. He has to soften his positions, because they are impractical, and/or insane otherwise.

This is what the republican Teaparty does. Say anything to get elected, but once in office the do as the like. This is how they trick their voters to vote against their own interest. Nothing new, it has always been this way and the damn fools keep voting them in office.
01:37 PM on 08/02/2010
Yeah, he's just trying to appear sane until after he's elected.
