HP always posts videos they know will get deleted
01:15 PM on 08/11/2010
That because they are a gossip-trend website with very few credentials as a valid news source.

Un,,,I did not know people still played baseball anymore..but adding in this Roman gladiator thug element seems like it will add in some diversity...maybe next year or the year after I will watch a few minutes of it...

There are a few of these posts here. Odd. Like during the World Cup when people actually spent their time posting to let us all know how little they cared about it. This kind of post is the very definition of "I have nothing else to do".

i daresay this Brandon Phillips should be kicked out of baseball. No home training.

Brandon made the first defensive move by removing his helmet, Yadi responded aggressively and then the Cards went on to own the Reds. I seriously hope that Cueto gets a lengthy suspension because his behavior was the very definition of bad sportmanship. I used his actions as an example of how not to act for my kiddios.

I think everyone's missing the real point here: that the Yankees suck!

Well, of course. They're in the AL and therefore don't play real baseball. ;)

Well stated. They play a fascimile of baseball with that stupid DH thingie.

The most ridiculous thing about a baseball brawl is the guys from the bullpen running ALL the way across the field to get there.

MLB needs to enact new rules about this:

1) If there is an incident, suspend any player that leaves the dugout, bullpen or batters circle to get involved.

2) If a pitcher brushes a hitter back and the hitter charges, let those two players and only those two players go at it. Pitchers won't be so bold if they know they're not gonna get bailed out by their teammates.
01:22 PM on 08/11/2010
That's not going to happen

1) Players have emptied dugouts and bullpens since as long as baseball has had confrontations. It happens, and that's part of what makes baseball unique - along with managers arguing with umpires. If you have never played baseball, then you wouldn't know about the nuances and subtleties that are important.

2) Pitchers brush back hitters not only for themselves, but also as a message from the team. Sometimes it's retaliation for what the opposing team did first, and the pitcher is the player who represents the teams interests on the mound. It's baseball tradition and won't be changing anytime soon.

If anything, baseball needs more of this, in my opinion. It makes games and rivalries more interesting.

And sometimes it's because the batter is hanging over the plate festooned with every kind of protective gear and the pitcher is just taking back his plate.

Libraries are filled with books on the nuances, strategies, and traditions of the game. Remeber the old maxim: the smaller the ball, the more books are written. Golf has the most ;)

Don Drysdale would have forcibly shaved every one of their goatees and made them wear their uniforms like Big Leaguers, instead of looking like a bunch of slobs wearing pajamas. Show the stirrups and sani's, for GAWD's sake!
11:53 AM on 08/11/2010
Yeah. Not much of a fan of the baggy pants thing.
11:57 AM on 08/11/2010
They do blow, don't they?
01:25 PM on 08/11/2010
Take a look at the man on the cover of Sports Illustrated this week. Is he wearing pajamas? LOL

It's Stan The Man Musial and the styles change periodially.

But I can empathize with your perspective. You must be an old-timer ;) If you know Drysdale. He threw at more people than anyone.
02:04 PM on 08/11/2010
Stan the Man showed the stirrups. He was a Big Leaguer. He did not look like a slob, like they do now. And I'm only 21 years old, so forget that old timer stuff. I just actually appreciate real Major League Baseball, not Slob Ball.

Tim McCarver. How lousy of a sportscaster is he...really?
01:26 PM on 08/11/2010
Dude, him and Joe Buck are my favorite! A guy on my team was saying the same thing about Tim, but I like him, if only when he's paired up with Buck.
01:34 PM on 08/11/2010
Tim McCarver causes acne. He was invented by the Soviets to lull Americans into shear anger and madness with his ridiculous and useless prawning on and on and on. How else to explain a quote like this: “Yankee pitchers have had great success this year against Cabrera when they get him out.”
11:42 AM on 08/11/2010
Ah. . .grown men acting like. . .like. . . I can't say kids, because I don't think kids act this was as often as professional baseball players do.

01:28 PM on 08/11/2010
well what do you want the grown men to act like, grown women? LOL

Testosterone, competition, and pride (for one's teammates and oneself) are what got this confrontation initiated.

It's completely a man thing ;)

You won't see softball girls doing this!
02:03 PM on 08/12/2010
Bull, with a side of pucky. Where were you earlier this year when on practically every national network and all over ESPN they showed a women's college soccer game between BYU and the Univ. of New Mexico where one girl beats the stuffing out of another? "Oh, you won't see softball girls doing this!" No, maybe you won't, Prancy Face, after a couple of softball girls take a couple of bats and use you for BP, Dingle Breath.

Don Drysdale would have thrown at their heads.
11:45 AM on 08/11/2010
One of my favorite Drysdale stories was of a pitcher who'd beaned a player and was first up in the next inning. As he walked towards the plate, he noticed the evil look on the opposing pitcher and turned and ran back towards his dugout. The other pitcher "nailed him on the fly."

Thanks for the laughs this morning, all you Cardinals and Reds fans. Still LMAO.
11:27 AM on 08/11/2010
The cardinals act like class because they have it.

We never had any players suspended for betting on baseball, no we just had regular professional athletes. Sorry guys, Reds just don't look like they have it together--doctoring baseballs and all.
11:33 AM on 08/11/2010
Um? What about the big juicer himself? Mark McWire ring any bells? Or the drunk driving manager currently in place?

I love my Cardinals but not sure we can pull the Holier than Thou act. The current players are classy but we have had our share of bums. Yadi is one of the classiest players so there must have been some major jawing going on.

Until you get rid of your manager, STL will have zero class in my eyes. The guy is an embarrassment to baseball. He's a drunk driver, he ignores and makes excuses for McGuire's steroid use..... he's pathetic and should be fired.

There is no doubt in my mind that Tony L directed Molina to act like a child to show up the childish Phillips. All Losers in my mind!

Right. I think that 911 was a conspiracy too. Good to see great minds think alike. Don't forget to wear your aluminum foil pyramid to the game today.

Cardinals feathers will be clipped. Is there anything else in SL to do in the summers sweltering humid heat? Tony was thug when he manage the White Sox and he is a thug today
12:17 PM on 08/11/2010
no doubt? on what basis?

Watch the video. Phillips is clearly throwing his pat outside the batters box, in front of Molina's legs. Phillips let's the bat hit Molina;s shinguards in front of the plate, outside of the batters box - a big no-no. The BB belongs to the batter, but the area of behind the plate in front of the catcher belongs to the catcher. Phillips invades this area, directly, then jumps away like a pansy when Molina take offense. Molina patiently waits for Phillips to return before taking issue.
