So, many on this site have explained that racism can not be both ways. That is ... The NAACP, the black community or minorities as a whole can not be racists because they are the "oppressed" group and oppressed groups can not be racists.

OK ... I'll accept that. What I would like to know is what you refer to the minority groups or people who have similar racist comments or attitudes towards the "majority" or non-minorities? They don't get a free pass just because they are the minority. And what do you call people who unfairly call others racists when in fact it's not true?

If you want to know why conservatives are angry with liberals on this subject ... it's because we are being called racists when in fact it's completely untrue. There are a handful of bad seeds, but it's not the conservative majority. Those that are truly racists are just ignorant people and not part of the conservative core values that I believe in.

So, if liberals want conservatives to listen, then stop painting racism with a broad brush and focus the racist accusations for the few that are truly the issue.

There IS an NAAWP. It is a neo-Nazi group that once boasted David Duke among its membership.

Horse feathers. Anytime you have a person, or a group of people, harping off about other people's ethnicity, congratulations, you're dealing with people that at least have racist leanings, if not in fact just plain racist. You could say that any group that specifically only includes members of a certain ethnic group is in fact, racist. Why not National Association for the Advancement of All People, why restrict it to Colored People? Besides, isn't 'colored people' pretty much a cliche term? Maybe that's part of the problem, here, the entity has largely served its' purpose, and is now trying to claw its' way back into relevance in absence of anyone to advocate for(or against). I'll bet there's more than one 'colored person' out there that's saying..."I don't really need an advocacy group, because...I...went to school...and...I have...a job...and a car and a house, and neighbors that might not look like me, but they're still cool people, and...I'd rather hang out with them, frankly'. People that have arrived, and don't really need the crutches, anymore, and that's basically what an advocacy group is: A crutch. Make your own way in the world, it's a free country. Sure, there might be throw-backs out there, here and there, but the civil rights battle is OVER. Lincoln freed the slaves in 1863. Now, when will 'colored people' free themselves, and just be People?

The NAACP is a racist organization by its own title. Try NAAWP on for size and see how far that flies. Shortly after MLK's assassination, the progressives hijacked his vision of judging a man by the content of his character and morphed it into affirmative action.

btw,.. where was the media coverage of Sharpton's 3 mile 'march' from Dunbar HS to the construction site of MLK's memorial? We saw them magically appear on Jefferson Ave. but still haven't seen any footage of the actual procession. Maybe it was up & down the aisles between the seats on the air-conditioned buses?

you know nothing about MLK, MLK was for affirmative action and preached about the need for the government to bring social and economic justice to all oppressed people in the U.S., before you comment on MLK I suggest you read his sermons and writings first......

MLK was also about equal rights, equal justice and anti war. MLK called on Federal Government to overrule state rights on so many issues. The Teabaggers are anti Federal Government and pro state rights. MLK was a voice for the poor.

Steinhauser said liberal groups don't hold themselves to as strict a standard. For example, he said, at antiwar rallies during the Bush administration there were signs showing communist decals and supporting communist leaders Fidel Castro and Kim Jong Il.

Isn’t this just another lie? Steinhauser is trying to associate Liberalism and Progressivism with Communism and Socialism. This displays either dishonesty or a massive lack of knowledge. Perhaps Steinhauser doesn’t possess the knowledge or the capacity to understand what he is talking about. His audience certainly doesn’t.

Progressivism began in Woodrow Wilson’s era with his attempt to establish a “scientific” government. Liberalism goes all the way back the Magna Charta and is about recognizing and respecting human rights. Neither has anything in common with either Socialism or Communism which are in the main economic theories.

It’s too bad that these ideas on what a proper government should be are so inconvenient to the making and keeping of extremely large fortunes. Steinhauser expects us to forego social and economic justice to that cause. No way!
03:34 PM on 09/04/2010
Not to nitpick, but the American progressive movement began in the final years of the 19th century, long before Wilson. They are responsible for such terrible, evil, communist things as banning child labor, women's suffrage, the first steps toward workplace safety, limited hour work weeks, and breaking up monopolies.

Thank you. I may have been incorrect. I was perhaps wrongly tying the progressive movement to Wilson's fascination with creating "scientific" governing organizations; from imaginary yacht clubs to the League of Nations. something he'd done since his childhood.

I take it the protester's "Congress is enslaving our children with debt" sign is meant to be an example of "racism" among tea partiers? Pretty weak evidence. If that's an example of the alleged "racism" in the group, that speaks volumes.

You seem to be one of those many people that are unaware that the congress controls the purse strings. A republican congress created the surplus and in 2006 a democrat congress drove the final nail into it's coffin.

Bush pushed through his Rx program to benefit his friends in Big Pharma but he never bothered to get it funded. Another hall of smoke and mirrors that you apparently are wandering.

"Congress is enslaving our children with debt". Really a stretch here. Enslave is much more impactful than say burden. This is not about race unless you want it to be. Just about a tsunami of debt.

That's why it helps to at least skim the article. Nobody is saying the use of the word enslave is a problem as far as I can tell. That's just a picture HP happened to choose.

As for the debt: There are two groups of people in this country: Those who have been worried about the debt since 2003 and those who have been worried about the debt since 2009. Which are you?

An idiotic move by the NAACP, as this creature, being partisan, will be subjective [ such as its anger at ethics probes launched at African American crooks in Congress],and will thus, become a thing of parody, much like Sharpton and Jackson.
