Two of the four greyhounds I have adopted have chattered their teeth when they were feeling pleasure or anticipation. It is funny that when one of them died, the remaining dog chattered her teeth and she had never done so before. I felt like it was Blue telling me that everything was all right on the "other side."

Do not want to rain on the cuteness parade, but squirrels are carriers of bubonic plague and rabies. I'm just sayin'...

That would be fleas, and squirrels can be vaccinated like a cat can.

Squirrels are so cool and super smart. We used to live in a place that had lots of them, and our cat was constantly trying to catch them. The squirrels used to sit with their backs to her, glancing over their shoulders until she got real close, and when she'd pounce, they'd race all over the yard, making her chase them, even though they could have run up any number of trees and escape. She never even got close to catching them. I used to leave peanuts out for them, and the bluejays would steal the peanuts and hide them in the pine tree. One day I looked up and saw a squirrel laying flat on a branch, hugging it tight to keep his profile low, watching the bluejay hide the peanuts between the branches. When the jay would fly off, the squirrel would run up the branch and steal the peanut. I'll bet a pet squirrel that thinks it's a cat will be a great pet.

Not having had its scent while she's nursed it. If Mama accepts it once, she won't forget.

This is likely psychological imprinting. If that is the case, the cats will forever consider the squirrel to be one of their own number despite the physical differences.

This has been seen many times before. There is a bear and cat duo at a zoo someplace that have co-habitated for years.

It's not some great moral tale. It's a testament to the adaptive power of the mammalian brain.

It's not a surprise. We share so much DNA with other mammals.

Does the squirrel have an inclination to climb trees?
10:01 PM on 09/11/2010
Not anymore. It just uses them to sharpen its claws.

I have a pet squirrel her name is rocky we though it was a male until she got bigger and had babies. every morning I call her she come down from the tree and into the house to eat squirrel food every morning she gets excited I have to wait until she stops circling my legs then she begs. She chases all other small animals out of the yard its her territory. Next door neighbors have a rat on crack (chihuahua) that keeps coming into my yard Rocky chases that dog all the way back to her door step. She's pretty cool

At our marina, there is a couple who lives on their sailboat and have been feeding a seagull. The gull chases all the other gulls away and never poops on their boat because they will not poop on their own feeding ground. Feeding it is a small price to pay for not having their boat pooped on.

I used to have lots of ducks, chickens, geese, peacocks, guineas, and once a duck egg ended up in the nest of a sitting hen, and was hatched out with the baby chicks, who it identified with; it always seemed afraid of the ducks, and was upset every night when the chicks flew up onto their roost in the hen house. It eventually got used to water, but always considered the chickens its family.
Nurture won out over Nature in this case.

My dog would like a moment alone with that squirrel. Don't even say that word around him.

Give a stray cat or dog a chance .

I couldn't live without a cat in my life ... they can do the sweetest things ... and then turn around , jump on the end table and break everything in sight ! ... but I love them just the same ....and dogs can be just as kind ... my xhub had a great bird dog named Maggie .. she had a litter of 11 pups , and I had just got a new kitten , Milo ... when we let the puppies out to play .. I put Milo with them and they all loved it ... and Maggie adored him ... after we put the pups up .. I walked to the back door with Milo .. well here come Maggie .. she sat at that back door whining , waiting for me to give her Milo .. she was such a sweet dog ... finally , but she didn't like it , we had to lead her back to her pen ... Animals can be kinder than alot of humans are .. and yet so many , have never really known the love .. from a good human being ... I miss Maggie ... she was a good soul ....
