An open and fair election in any country has to allow all parties and ideas to be put to the voters. When this happens the vote will be more fair, less dangerous and give a real idea about the people.

you'd better go feed your unicorn and do another line of fairy dust.

Fraud in their elections? The Afghans are clearly not learning from us Americans. The fraud is supposed to be in your financial sector and your right-wing media!! Then you use THAT fraud to brainwash the population into voting for people who have picnics on satanic alters (Christine O'Donnell for those of you who haven't seen that story yet).

Or Florida 2000 and Ohio 2004. What a coincidence, the Republicans won both elections, and it was overseen by two Republican Secretaries of State.

Question:

If the US is in fact a democracy, then its government is a fair representation of the American people's will. What, then, is the matter with the American people that they continue to engage in such brutal insanity as has been unleashed in Iraq and Afghanistan ?

Answer: You are wrong from the beginning, the USA is a Republic.

A republic and a democracy are not mutually exclusive entities despite that fallacious conservative distinction. A republic is simply ONE TYPE of democracy where representatives are elected rather than having a direct popular assembly as the legislative vehicle (not really possible unless you're a Greek city-state). Technically, the US is a "democratic republic".
09:52 PM on 09/18/2010
and you are kidding yourself. the USA is a fascist oligarchy of corporate "owners"

yup, yup... and with the n. koreans rewriting the code we will see elections stolen by 1 or 2% rather than train wrecks like GORE negative 15,000 votes in a single florida precinct. america is nothing more than a sad memory.

america's chickens are roosty-pooters and.... altogether now: KARMA'S A BEYATCH!
11:38 PM on 09/18/2010
yep gore was a negative vote, no different than the state run media calling the elction before the polls closed

Well, now you understand why it takes YEARS to get a country (Iraq) to a point where elections are, relatively speaking, legitimate. You don't just blow into town (ESPECIALLY A TOWN LIKE AFGHANISTAN), stay for 8 months and say "Now go be a democracy." Nation-building is long, hard work. You're dealing with a theocracy.

We went about this all wrong. What we should've done is allowed only male property owners to vote for the first ninety years or so while enslaving a population of people to whom we refuse to grant citizenship. Then when they can vote, we should enact a bunch of laws that make it difficult for them to actually follow through with the act, like literacy tests and a poll tax. About 80 years after the formerly enslaved segment is granted the laughable version of this particular right, we should allow women to vote. That's the model that's worked, and I see no reason why it will ever stop.

Why stop there? Let's commit all the way. 9/11 happened during Obama's watch. Obama used secret Kenyan magic to cause Katrina. The US lost the Vietnam war because Obama refused to go fight while he was 6 years old. Give me a little more time. I can come up with a bunch of other things Obama is responsible for, teabag.
