"Without sound oversight and commonsense protections for consumers, the whole economy is put in jeopardy," Obama said Saturday in his weekly radio and Internet address. "That doesn't serve Main Street. That doesn't serve Wall Street. That doesn't serve anyone."

While that sounds good . . . anyone that has actually reviewed the bill doesn't explain it that way.

Democrats and the President ran around telling everyone how we needed to end too big to fail and their bill will do that . . . bascially just lied to our faces.

"The financial reform bill championed by the Obama administration and Senate Democrats as permanently ending the idea that large, interconnected financial institutions are too big to fail does no such thing"

How disappointed will the Teabags be if the GOP can't manage to do a single thing they've been blotivating about for the past 2 years?

Looking forward to the GOP-Teabag war.the early skirmishes are already starting.

I think in the longer term, the Tbags are going to weaken the GOP.

The current reforms and enforcement is so weak I doubt there would be much difference it was repealed. The current reform just like the health care bill is so compromised and halfhearted its a "political" victory rather one of substance. Here again when both sides of the aisle are sponsored by the same corporations and super rich it is surprising the outcome is cosmetic.

What I find curious is that the people who condemn the Tea Party and the Repubs for blindly and uncritically follow like lemmings, which they do, essentially follow the Dem party line in the same fashion. Both party are sponsored by the same super rich and corporate interests. The difference between the parties is style not substance. When you control the Presidency and both houses of congress if don't get something done its because you don't want to as a means of supporting your corporate sponsors.

'But as effective as Obama has been at implementing progressive policy, he has been lousy at capitalizing on those victories politically. Much of his activist base can't seem to get over the compromises he made to win such historic reforms, and average Americans are largely clueless about the key achievements of his presidency. Polls show that only 12 percent of Americans realize that Obama cut their taxes; indeed, twice that number thought the president had raised them. Just 29 percent understand that the stimulus boosted the economy, and 81 percent believe that the deficit-slashing health care reform will actually increase the deficit.

"You have this conundrum," says Wilentz, the Princeton historian. "Obama has an admirable record of accomplishment, but the political dynamics are all moving the other way. How do you explain that?"

The above quotes were taken from the Rolling Stone piece, that MnM so kindly shared.

And my answer to the last question...is two fold...one the Corporate MSM, has done a fantastic job at putting down EVERYTHING this administration has accomplished and TWO the right wing propaganda machine and it's lackeys, the tea party, has been given FRONT page coverage since DAY 1....sadly too many Americans are TOO lazy and too involved in other things to be really paying attention. INSTEAD they prefer simple sound bytes and hyperbole....which distorts the TRUTH.

WHEN is this nation (collectively) going to WISE up and GROW up????

The President is not being honest again? Shocking.

Best case senario, the Republicans take the House this election season . . .

He knows they have ZERO chance to repeal anything with out massive Dem support . . . so why does he bring it up?

I guess he's playing to the low information voters.

Of course the GOP will try to overturn Wall Street reform. Add to that the fact they will try to reform the health care reform. Would you expect them not to? Maybe - just maybe - a majority of voters think both bills are so poor anyway they should be repealed.

Whatever, it has to be stated that the right has been more forceful in attacking these bills than the left has been in building up support for them. Whether I am right will be revealed by November 3rd.

Presidential Administrations have written laws and had Congress people sponsor them. That happens all the time. Obama failed to lead and lay out a strong set of expectations for the Democratic Party. He is the HEAD OF THE PARTY! He commanded big margins in the Senate and House. He didn't lead.

Remember also when Dems in the House wanted Cram-down legislation that would force mortgage holders to renegotiate the terrible terms that were kicking people out of their homes. The White House came out against that. Please tell me why?

He is protecting corporate interests more than he is the interests of the common people.

Whatever the reason. The legislation was weak we still have

Too Big to Fail
The continued connection between "regular" banking and speculative banking
Risking & unregulated Derivatives trading

So what has really changed?

No one is impressed with this piece of that he called "reform" That is not the right word for it.

When polticians lie and/or prove themselves corrupt and inept you vote them out. This argument that the Tea Party would be worse doesn't hold water. First, they will be a minority. Second, how could they be worse than what we've got with the gang of tools for Corporate Slave State America we've got now. You really like you some:

Harry Reid...

'Dick' Durbin...

Leahy...

Steny Hoyer...

Great, leave them in to continue to screw you and me over?

For forty years the 'Democrat' Party has been running on this tired and fallacious meme.

Enough.

ps. There are more and more folks running who are not Tea Party nor 'Democrat' Party. Vote for them.

When Obama ran for President, he said, "change is needed, it won't be easy and it must start from the bottom. He said he would need OUR help"
We can see that a change IS necessary. Corporations and Wall Street are in charge of the Earth, its resources and her people. They don't see her beauty, they want the dollars.
We can see its hard to wrestle control from them, because they have, the dollars.
We know these things, but, Consider this-
If WE as a nation, began PUSHING TOGETHER, especially from down here, we could force our way out of this.

I think that he was anticipating the rise of the tea people and referring to the fact that they would need help with their Depends.
