Obama is turning out to be the obstrucionist in the Democratic party and it's ability to stick with Democratic values.
07:30 PM on 11/19/2010
I don't understand your point of view. Obama created the tax cut for the middle class and wants to keep it. That is a Democratic value.

No he didn't create them.  These are the Bush tax cuts.  We lost a lot in the election because the deficit has grown immensly.  The upper two percent of the populations cuts, if left to expire, would save billions and billions of dollars.  Still, Obama doesn't want to take a stand until after he meets with the republicans on the 30th.  These are the same republicans who didn't bother themselves to come when he invited them earlier in the week. Pelosi and Reid are talking about just voting to extend the middle class cuts, letting the wealthy's cuts expire. He doesn't want to move either way before he meets with the Republicans.   He should be taking a stand with Reid and Pelosi.  Nothing is going to be any different when he comes out of the meeting on the 30th as far as the republicans refusal to drop the cuts for the wealthy.  Why is he continually not taking a stand and fighting them.  This bipartisan stuff is cra p.  He is the only one playing the game and that is what he has done all along.  He needs to stop it, and stand with the party as a whole.

Good, good and good. Can it be that the Democrats are actually going to stand together on our behave without concern for the politics. I so hope they succeed.
05:18 PM on 11/19/2010
Well, if extending tax cuts for the wealthy is such an obviously good idea, why not let the republicans pass them retroactively in january. If the GOP wants the credit for spending $700 billion on a federal handout to the wealthy, they can have it.

More political grandstanding! This is no different than what the Reps did yesterday with the NPR bill. Both sides are out to make the other look bad and, as much as I disagree, even the leading Dems and economists are agreeing that the tax cut for the rich should be extended.

Wrong.  The leading economists and Democrats are not agreeing on the extention.  You can't just make shiite up and expect noone to notice.

Sorry, read again. I don't make this stuff up. Maybe you need to open your eyes.

This'll put more pressure on the poor to step-up and start offering high-quality, good-paying jobs.
04:45 PM on 11/19/2010
Just a brief moment of reality.

The tax increase on the wealthy, that is being discussed, will only raise about $70 billion per year. Want to know how much we are over-spending? $1,300 billion, per year!

The greatest lie in politics is that all would be well if only the rich would pay their fare share. The reality is that Washington has so far surpassed the ability of anyone, let alone just the wealthy, to support the out of control spending, it is not even funny.

And, what do the Democrats talk about? More! Everyday we read about abuses in the public sector with regard to salaries, benefits, and pensions. And, yet, all the Democrats can talk about is more! Democrats have expanded direct federal department level spending 19% in just 18 months, and what do they want? More!

More, More, More! More power, more dependency, more debt, more taxes, more control!

As in, "I went to Fair which was just fair but at least the weather was fair but the fare was a bit much. Now I'm just feeling fair and square like fairly well.

Even if what you say is true, 70 billion a year saved is still a significant amount of money.

I don't care if the Democrats get their butts kicked for standing true to what they stand for.

Be true to your core principles. As long as you stand true to your core principles, you have my vote and support.

Better to lose being a good democrat than some ungodly attempt to emulate a republican!

That's right Democrats; BRING THE PAIN!!!
04:44 PM on 11/19/2010
Boy, I always thought it was Obama who was President. It seems he's leaning one way and then meets with Pelosi, and bam! he (and Congress) do whatever she says......she's been the President all along.
They've known about this for a long time......why are they just getting around to it? One of the main reasons for unemployment mess is the UNCERTAINTY - businesses need to know what to expect for a long period (longer than one or two years) in order to start hiring, etc. That's killing us too, not knowing bc of this wreckless, crazy Admin. And surely, people do understand, we're not talking about "cuts" at all. We're talking about whether taxes go up or not for everyone. If extended, the current tax rates stay the same (no "cuts"). If they let them expire, taxes go up for everyone.

The 'uncertainty' argument is crap. These cuts were set to expire the second they were signed into being. Why? Because GW Bush knew that was the only way to get them passed - through reconciliation which automatically includes a sunset clause.

Thus, the argument about raising taxes? Also crap.
05:06 PM on 11/19/2010
They didn't vote on it earlier because they knew thay were going to take a bath in 2010 elections and wanted this time to show everyone how the Reps were against it.

I just heard Ed Shultz on the radio talk about the TSA patdowns. He said "what man would want another man putting his hands all over them"? He quickly knew what he said was homophobic and tried to get out of the uncomfortable situation he knew he was in.
