Hey, where are all of you 'Jon Stewart is a sell-out' people today? Where are all of you paranoi.acs today that claimed Stewart was behind some propaganda plot?

Maybe they cut access to the internet to in the asylum.

Does that not have more to do with knee jerk reactions that people tend to have online? It's an out of control pendulum swinging back and forth from the extremes.

Ah, those picky little things called "taxes". Once again, we bow down to their power! Oh, Lord of Taxes, please do our bidding and make sure our processed food supply is healthy enough to ki// us safety! In you, we submit our lives and bodies. Please be good!

this CRAP bill is DOA...... it has to go back to the HOUSE as they write the tax laws and this involves a tax...

What else does Faux news tell us? Especially as our food supply gets more dangerous...
I love the way Beck spits out the word progressive and the name Theodore Roosevelt in the same sentance at the endof the clip.

You should watch it!

It is now being revealed that US Senators slipped up in a big way when passing the Food Safety Modernization Act on Tuesday: They added what are effectively "new taxes" into the bill, and according to the U.S. Constitution, only the House of Representatives can initiate legislation requiring new taxes.

"and gives the FDA the authority to directly order recalls, shifting that power from a voluntary recall system determined exclusively by the offending companies themselves, when they feel like it."

And there were still 25 Senators that voted against it??? 25% think Palin would be a great President. 25% thought Bush was a great President. Clearly 25% of this country keeps their brains at home in a jar under the bed.

And unfortunately it looks like this 25% will be running the country soon. This is what happens when lazy Americans stay home and don't bother to vote.

Wow, just further proof this country is in trouble. Something as simple as legislating for safe food turns into the government/corporations (depending on which side of politics you are on) taking over our food supply. How the hell are we going to get the serious issues fixed.

That's right. The federal government is the paradigm of honesty and efficiency, and that is why we need to give them more power over what we put into our own bodies. As everyone knows the FDA, like all government agencies, is above corruption, and run by noble bureaucrats that would never dream of being coopted by the mega corporations they are supposed to be regulating. Yet still you people resist. Sigh. When will you learn that safety is more important than freedom? Everything the federal government has done is for your benefit, and if you don't like it you are either a partisan or a right wing kook.

Do I recall correctly that it was this expose that helped lead to the forming of the FDA by that rascally progressive Teddy?

I have. Its commie propaganda. Sinclair twisted everything around so that providing low cost non perishable food to the masses is somehow a bad thing

Fools only listen to these creepy individuals, how by the way, eat only at wonderful 4 star restaurants, while laughing at you uneducated stupid fools, as its these same laws that keep you somewhat physically healthy!

Bean Sprouts.
Peanut Butter.
Eggs.
Spinach.

Once upon a time, I would have bet that these were wholesome foods.
What Jon missed is the total number of food inspectors that the FDA has...which was drastically cut during the Reagan Years...and never replaced.

Good Job protecting us...

I'm afraid not.
Every major food recall has involved foodstuffs produced in the US...not abroad.

I prefer small local farms and dairies---but I don't put the blame on other countries when we consistently fail to guard our own.

12:52 PM on 12/02/2010
Whats really happening here is that large agribusiness has been hurt by "buy local" initiatives. This bill presents an opportunity to force many of those small and sometimes organic farms out of business.
No bill passes Congress w/o creating an opportunity for the biggest players to removed the smaller and usually more innovative.

What does food safety and Glen Beck have in common? Jon Stewart of course.
The Food, the Bad and the Ugly
The Senate passes actual legislation about food safety, even though Glenn Beck says Americans are already experts on it. http://www.newslook.com/videos/271162-the-food-the-bad-and-the-ugly?autoplay=true

Doctor Tom Coburn? Doctor of what, psychic phenomenon? The FDA apparently has yet to protect republican senators and Fox game show hosts from diarhea of the mouth.

Let's all bundle a package of untested backyard veggies for Glenn Beck's family Christmas meal, if he's concerned about dying from it like everyone else, he can have his pet poodle test it for him.
01:19 PM on 12/02/2010
He looks like a character straight out of The X-Files.
