Apparently, there is NOTHING that is sacred insofar as chiseling a profit.

When you are taking advantage of a guy straight from the war, you are a true Republican, oops, I mean, weasel.

Hey man I am a republican and fresh out of the military. I wouldn't do that to anyone, nor would I cave to pressure from a coucelor. I might laugh at the councelor, but then again I was the one that was packing my buddies electronics they bought at 'smart buy' at 4 times the price with 20% interest and bringing it back for them before the 14 day no return date. There are criminal companies that take advantage of military knowing it is a guaranteed payment or the service member gets in trouble. It is very predatory lending around military bases.

War in the Middle East causes the poor, displaced to be desperate. The indigent will sell their children, it’s called human trafficking and it’s big business in the Middle East. It’s been in Wikileaks, newspapers and the radio. When Is HP can going publish my post?!

“A piece in Sunday's San Francisco Chronicle detailed the shocking prevalence of child sexual abuse in the southern part of the country. Joel Brinkley, a journalism professor at Stanford University, explains that, according to a report commissioned by the Defense Department.

It's sexual relationships with boys as young as 9. (It’s going on in more places than that and it’s little girls as well).

The technical term for these men is "bacha baz," which translates to "boy player" (although "pedophile" works just as well). In popular weekly events, "young boys dress up as girls, wearing makeup and bells on their feet, and dance for a dozen or more.

Now I can’t disagree with the Salon article more. Human trafficking and pedophilia is because it's hurting a child is sick.

Our US contractors in Afghanistan are doing it. - Wikileaks. It’s sick. I wonder if we are complicit supporting these places that do it! HP, step up and publish my post already. Here’s the darn link. Maybe the Catholics will buy it. Yes, that’s a jab at certain priests….

Its not just these colleges doing it, there are businesses outside of bases who will loan shark these guys, how terrible is that? Here's an 18-20 year old kid fresh out of basic, protecting you, and you are trying to rip him or her off. Its shameful.
10:31 PM on 12/09/2010
Exactly, they are not capable of rational decisions.

As ALWAYS, the focus is on the money - not the person. The nation has gone from a policy of "The customer is always right" to "The customer is a nuisance that's standing between me and his/her money.

I'm a veteran and I enrolled and graduated from a private university and I see nothing wrong with this; it's the free market at work. It isn't any different to the recruiter who called them constantly or the aggressive time-share salesman. "Thank you, but I am not interested."

Those who served, like I did, know there is a vast array of products and services which you are almost forced to buy (this takes place mostly during basic training) which is way more reprehensible than this, since it is usually pushed by drill sergeants and training officers.

I hope that little mafia they had at Fort Benning when I trained has been stopped but I highly dobt it.

Education first became a commodity in the late 40s. commodity. This was when research became "big research" setting off this whole make-money-not-scholarship race started... Right after WWII when the MIT Radar Lab and its federal funders, due to the success of the Manhattan project-- i.e. big science, and the cold war, started dumping more cash into harvestable research. That was when big bucks first met academics. Everything changed. Soon everyone was doing it. By the seventies, even Europe had caught on to the game.. and today it is worse than ever. However, if you travel to other parts of the world, where education is not an industry, but a pursuit or a necessity for survival, the difference is so stark. Then you have some countries like Indian and Australia which have parallel tracks- for-profit schools and state schools all offering the same accredited degree (i,.e. same ranking... not like Phoenix versus Harvard.) The clear difference shows up there too. Somethings may not be commoditized successfully- Education, the military.. we just failed on one of them.
