had ronnie and nancy open minds..

they could have helped him with his alzheimer's:

''Scientists from Ohio State University report that marijuana, contrary to the conventional wisdom, may help ward off Alzheimer's and keep recall sharp. Their findings, released today at the Society for Neuroscience meeting in Washington D.C.: chemical components of marijuana reduce inflammation and stimulate the production of new brain cells, thereby enhancing memory.''

both my parents have Alzheimer's... I often wonder how they would be today today if instead of an evening scotch... they'd had a brownie.

why not try some mj on them now?

also.. while i haven't a link.. i remember reading somewhere that a loss of the ability to smell certain odors (perfumes especially) is an indicator of future alzheimer's.

"Marijuana may improve memory and help fight Alzheimer's"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4286435.stm

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/science-news/3485163/Marijuana-may-improve-memory-and-help-fight-Alzheimers.html

I sure would have been feeding my old man cannabis cookies if I knew then what I know now. Alzheimer's is a terrible way to go. My mom was also diagnosed with Alzheimer's but she had a stroke which led to her death about 3 months afterward, and in hind sight I think she got lucky.

If stuff like ameliorating the symptoms of Alzheimers or effectiveness in tumor suppression is proven the Know Nothings will move directly from being despicable wastes of oxygen and will render them the moral equivalent of war criminals.

Notice the complete absence of Bible Belt states (other than NM) in this list? You don't think there is any WASP based correlation, now do you? Naaahhhh.
07:18 PM on 12/21/2010
Notice the complete absence of facts in your response? NM a bible belt state? Naaaaaaaaahhhh. WASP? Um, no.

But hey, other than that, like, spot on, dude!

In fact, NM, a southwestern mountain state, is one of the few states - if not the only state - where protestants are NOT in the majority. And guess what? Every single state with a medical MJ law does have a protestant majority.

Sorry for the inconvenince. Now you'll have to find some other group on which to pin your irrational prejudices.

Caveat: I'm not WASP.

I live in Rhode Island, but any State that has the law but doesn't sell medical marijuana is kind of missing the point. I believe it's still illegal to buy it here. In California, they can grow it and sell it, so I'd guess that the State would benefit from that. Here it doesn't really change anything.

Yeah, New Mexico has had it around since the 1970s, but it wasn't till 2007 that they made a new one, and actually made it happen...

I'd like to see a study of cops that looks into the question: Could a predisposition to arrest harmless people be part of a pattern of avoiding cop/crook confrontations that would involve non-harmless/dangerous types?

If most people, or at least most young people, are occasionally partaking in a little self-medication, it gives the cops and the corpos a great deal of discretion when it comes to discriminating against marginalized groups.

Not always true, I smoked for 25 years and never got over 120 lbs., quit for 15 years and got up to 180, started back smoking when I turned 60, 8 months ago and have already lost 25 lbs. and I don't hate housework nearly as much.

Keep in mind we only have one growing season here in WA and unless you can afford an indoor set-up, that 24 ounces needs to last a year which would be fine if you're smoking it but not nearly enough to make strong medicine for cancer etc.

Two things:

1. This is a large tax revenue source for many states in dire need of cash.

2. This is money that stays local.  It does not go to fund the drug wars in Mexico.

Don't forget jobs:

Farmers to grow it
Harvester's to pick it
Transportation to the dispensery
Dispensery employees
Regulators to monitor the growing process

The jobs due to local industry will distribute all wealth over time when we go hemp in America.

Farming fallow fields and the industries that come from hemp, You name it, it is the most human friendly plant on earth.

This is the real answer to bringing down centralized power and dealing with Wall Street and The mega banks. Damn the Government we could take control of our lives and our country again!

Rational Voice
A voice of reason in a world gone insane
02:45 PM on 12/21/2010
Medical Marijuana is indeed a step in the right direction, and these states are to be commended for their humanity, compassion, and ability to see reason and logic; however, the federal government and the other 35 states are still in the dark ages about this, and that's just criminal.

But Medical Marijuana is not near enough. In order to protect patients, lower costs, and treat this substance rationally, it must be legalized, taxed, and regulated -- FOR ALL ADULTS, not just the sick ones.

After all, we are talking about a substance that is unquestionably safer in every way than alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, and many of our over-the-counter "medications". There is no legitimate reason for the continued madness of prohibition.

FTW!

they should get rid of this ridiculous "scheduling" entirely

They should also mention it is legal, medical or not, in Alaska to have one ounce or under for personal use, and anyone can grow plants for personal use.
