Ans some states want to eliminate public education because the private sector is so much better.

Another example of "revolving door" career paths. In this case a former administration lawyer now lobbying for companies that, in effect, steal from people. Whether the door is used to go from industry to government or visa versa, the result seems to be that the average person seems to, quite often, get screwed in the process.

My granddaughter got caught up in this scam several yrs ago. She was 17, and was allowed to sign contracts for 4 loans for a 10 mo course, winding up with a $15K debt. All that money went directly to the school (a for-profit brick & mortar entity)--she didn't see a penny, along with a Pell grant and another grant. In spite of having no income and in spite of her mother's credit being in the cellar and rejected--she was allowed to sign loan contracts even though she was a minor. Her first job was $11/hr as a "certified medical asst"; after 3 yrs she made $12/hr and has been unable to find another job after losing that one 2 yrs ago. To this day, she doesn't understand the contracts and I advised her to contact an atty.

For that kind of money, she could have gone to the Univ of NC and started training as an RN or done so at a local hospital nursing school.

And yes, she was given the hard sell at her HS--when those people should have been kicked off campus. I tried to warn her, but she believed all the hype, esp the $35-40K/yr salary they said she'd be making.

Your right to recommend she contact an attorney. I find it hard to believe that a contact signed by a minor is legally valid. An attorney in your state would know.

She's right to go to a lawyer, but there's a doctrine called "emanicpated minor" which allows certain minors contractual authority if they've left the home, etc. I sense that her mother may have co-signed these papers otherwise why would her mother's credit score be an issue.

Good luck. While I feel very bad that your daughter got scammed, it is unconscionable that pell grants and other "free" (taxpayer funded) aid go to these scam schools. I strongly support government aid for students, but, as always, there is a scammer out there to benefit from it.

I used to do advertising for UoP. Each day I went home feeling sick to my stomach at the lies that they spread.

I quit advertising all together and now I teach English. I'm not making as much money, but I sure sleep better at night.

This goes to show how idiotic these people in the higher educatioanl field are not the broghtest light bulbs in the lamp!

This is like an armed robber saying, "Well, yes, I used a 357 to hold up that gas station. But I used 38 cartridges instead of 357s !!!"

Same difference. Misrepresentation is lieing in my book.

Don't forget "broghtest", "lieing", all the grammatical errors, and the lack of sense the whole comment made in the first place.

Wonder how much money has flowed into congress by the lobbyists to not change one thing, after all it is only this nations education systems and our future that is being ripped off. Wonder when the nation will get fed up with continued and growing corruption and demand it end, before the nation does?

OMG, Lanny Davis of Allied Capital fame is involved? Read David Einhorn's book, "Fooling Some of the People All of the Time" to learn more about that piece of work.

No, it is welcome to the Robber Baron and corrupted Congress free market, as I am sure those with the lobby money do not find it a "Free" market, so to speak. How sad for the nation that congress and WH seem so silent about these criminals, who rob, usually the most vulnerable that cannot afford it and only wanted to better selves.
