"because I am involved in Mankind;"

I knew these types of articles would be forthcoming after the Von Fursetenberg piece last week.

You're Jewish, and you once worked with him, how do you feel about Galliano?
You're Jewish, and you defended him, how do you feel about Galliano?
You're Jewish, and you once played with him on the playground, how do you feel about Galliano?
You're Jewish, and one of your cousins, twice removed, went to a birthday party he attended, how do you feel about Galliano?

Hmmm...why don't you "man up" and just say what's really on your mind instead of hiding behind scare quotes?

Don't have the courage of your convictions?

Cut the guy some slack. I am sure he has defended worse than this guy. It's what lawyers do.

Anti-semitism is not racism. Judaism is not a race, it's a religion.

It is considered both actually. I am not a practicing Jew but my mother was Jewish so in a lot of circles I am considered Jewish.

It's an ethnicity. You can be an atheist, and still be a Jew (which I am). You cannot be an atheist and be a Christian or a Muslim. In addition, the Human Genome Project has proven that Jews all over the world are genetically more related to each other than they are to the populations among which they live. (Ironically, we are also more genetically related to Palestinians than we are to other populations. More proof of the need to resolve the Israel/Palestine conflict).

This man does nothing to dispel the sterotype of Jews.
How could you stand next to far less defend this man after he said those things if you are a Jew?
It is not like it was hearsay, it was on video, plain as day, Galliano said those awful things.

Could it be this whole ordeal has been taken out of context (there's a surprise) and this lawyer knows it?

I seriously doubt it from what he said on the tape it is hard to even try to play devils advocate.

He is a lawyer! he has to defend people regardless of how much they are thought to be guilty in the court of public opinion. This is what the profession of law asks. So, hold your uninformed judgment!

He does not have to do anything.
He can refuse the case.
Attorneys refuse cases everyday.
How exactly did you come to the conclusion that he has to defend Galliano?

This is the same as when Rapists hire a female lawyer or people accused of a hate crime always hire a lawyer that is the race, gender, or sexual orientation of the person they are accused of attacking.

Typical Legal strategy.

Interesting that so many here (on various comment threads) have convicted the man before he has gone to trial. So much for fairness. Of course, we have become a nation that "tries on TV" all the time. Why wait for a trial when we can convict someone based on media reports?

Also interesting that the video is not being offered as evidence. To me, that suggests the possibility that the video was edited, and therefore, false. But many media outlets don't care. They just report sensational news to gain readers.

This situation isn't so different from O'Keefe's stings...

While it is true we did not see the whole thing. If you saw the video the comments are inexcusable and very difficult to defend. However, If Mr Zerbib wants to try let him....shoot I would do it pro bono for the publicity.
09:51 AM on 03/10/2011
I might be mistaken but there is no reference to Jews right? Maybe he was insulting gay people, Roma or Jehovah's-witnesses.. The French and Italians don't mind insulting Roma so I would go with that. So it doesn't seem very hard to defend to me, although in very poor taste

Lawyers are paid to defend their clients.

Thank goodness the Western world has a legal system that allows every defendant due process and legal counsel.

Lawyers do not have to agree with, like or otherwise admire their clients. They simply have to defend them under the law. There is no problem here, other than a manufactured one.
