And yet, builders continue to build and Wall Street continue to put importance on new home sales and starts/permits................

That's because 70% of our economy revolves around consumers spending. Pretty pathetic, isn't it?

We are suffering through the Second Great Depression, except this time, the wealthy got a pass, so they didn't jump out of tall buildings, but just stole our futures.

Thank you Wall Street for securitizing mortgages, inflating the values of homes and then bringing on the great housing crash! We just love it when you gamble with our lives! And, BTW, enjoy your taxpayer funded bonuses...

You're so cute with your comment ........"Imagine that"
Did Harry Reid bring our economy down all by himself ?

Yep, now that that philander, Ensign, is retiring maybe you can get Angle or the "chicken lady" to run again.

Maybe selling our houses to each other wasn't the best thing to base the economy on?

And now were selling our debt to each other - and to other nations. I'd fan you again but . . .

Oh yea, that will work. I own a house, pay a mortgage, and freeloaders squat in the house next door to me and pay nothing. That will not last long!

Most Nevadans who lost their homes earned between $24,000 and $72,000, according to a homeowners survey published by the Nevada Association of Realtors in January. Roughly 60 percent said they lost their jobs first, then their homes.

Well, Duhhhh - How is someone supposed to pay a $300,000 loan making that kind of money?

Now you can see a state the Republicans admire. They killed the Unions, the money went to the top and the state is now a Republican paradise.

I suspect that there will be a large migration of Japanese to the US as a result of the unimaginable effort necessary to rebuild.  This may solve our real estate problems, where homes are standing empty across the nation, but specifically in Nevada, California and Florida.

Even if you are right about the migration of the Japanese to the USA, all of them are not going to have the cash to buy the houses nor will they be able to get a mortgage.

I grew up in LV, Nevada. And I moved the hell out right after high school. Best decision I ever made. Sure there's no income taxes, but there's also no social services and the universities/community colleges are way behind the times. It's a Republican Utopia!

The educational system there is a dinosaur. You can't get ANY training for the high-tech jobs of tomorrow because it's not available. Corporations aren't interested in relocating to NV because a majority of the workforce is uneducated.
07:51 PM on 03/15/2011
It has nothing to do with GOP run or Democratic run, it comes down to greed and over zealous bankers and homeowners with visions of dollar signs dancing in their heads. No matter the duplicity and lack of foresight from the government no one held a gun to anyone's head to make them sign.

Give blame where blame is do.
