Ironic.. you smoke K-2 you'll probably pass a piss test but would be as unstable as a crack head. Good to see the war on Drugs is working out for everybody. Nobody is saying legalize heroin, crack, x or any of the obviously harmful stuff but the fact that we lock up tens of thousands a year because of a plant is a little hard to swallow.

It's not about a plant. It's about having a legal reason to round up black people and put them in prison.

Prisons are money making ventures. Without a constant stream of prisoners alot of people would lose alot of federal dollars. In the last quarter century, how many prisons and jails have been built in your state versus state colleges or universities?

I say legalize it all. It's all about purity and control over the ingredients and treatment is much less expensive than incarceration.

Totally. And fewer people actually need treatment than those who "need" incarceration.

While I have no doubt that these alternative drugs have many adverse effects, let's be clear about one thing - no drug, ever, will cause someone with no suicidal issues to immediately kill themselves. There are some drugs, recreational and prescription that can cause severe depression over time which will lead to suicide, but never the first time taking it.

This myth finally needs to be put to rest.
01:25 PM on 04/09/2011
Actually, people coming down from amphetamines often feel severe depression; I'm sure it has led to suicide at least a few times. You are right though, I know people that have used K2 and they were fine.
01:49 PM on 04/09/2011
That's true, but if you were a balanced individual before trying methamphetamine one time, you're most likely going to be okay. It's not a good drug by any means, and addiction to meth is pure hell, but it really is probably much safer than the "bath salts" people have been getting into.
12:47 PM on 04/09/2011
I don't know anyone whose ever gone to the emergency room from smoking pot. If you want to get high, just buy real drugs and not some crappy over priced concoction from a head shop.

The only currently illegal drugs that should be legalized are marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms - it just doesn't make logical sense to me to ban something that grows out of the ground, not to mention that both drugs cause far less damage then currently legal recreational drugs (alcohol and tobacco). The more a drug has been processed, the more damage it seems to be capable of (meth, heroin, synthetics).

Well with shrooms, it can cause someone to freak out, in a dangerous way. I really don't think most can handle it.

@Kelly, great, no one's asking them to try it.
@Teshkie - for me the defining factor for a drug's illegality should be addictive potential coupled with life damaging, not life damaging by itself..
so, cocaine, opiates, meth, pcp etc are definitely superbad

ecstasy is debatable, the freak stories are from pills that aren't even mdma, and there's no addictive component to it.
LSD, mushrooms, marijuana are easily legalizable.
01:47 PM on 04/09/2011
The problem is that keeping drugs illegal doesn't stop anyone from doing them if they want to do them. All that prohibition has ever done is created violence and more crime. We have poor treatment options because there's no focus on it or funding for it. Jailing drug addicts doesn't help them.

If we would remove prohibition of every drug, the only thing the drug lords in Mexico that are growing in power every day would have left is human trafficking, which is something that we should really be focusing on, because it actually has victims that have no choice in the matter.

Making drugs illegal has also subsidized their price. One of the worst components of an illegal drug is its price. For instance, heroin is expensive which causes addicts to do things (thieft, prostitution) in order to get the money to get the drug. The criminal acts are not caused by the drug but are caused by the drug being illegal.

I've personally smoked K2 a few times. For about 15 minutes you do feel 'high' but then I got a headache and tired right after, but I could not sleep. When I tried to sleep it was like my brain was in super slow motion, it was a very strange feeling. The other noticable problem with K2 I had it that it dried out my sinuses badly, one moring I had a minor nose bleed. Overall the product does what it claims it get's you a semi marijuana high. I used K2 to ween myself off of marijuana, haven't smoked in 9 months and I use to smoke everyday for 10 years. I'll be back to the sweet mary jane but as long as I have to take a drug test for everyjob I'll continue to occasisonally smoke K2. I wish they'd legalize marijuana but they won't because of ignorance.

The fake stuff is not good at all. I bought the strongest grade I could find and it still didn't work. Plus it smells bad.

People don't go to the hospital when they use the real stuff.

I'm glad I don't find solace in the use of drugs for excitement as it seems the choices are worse now then they've ever been. While I think recreational drugs out to be legal they surely ought to be safe and that can't happen when we have prohibition forcing back alley substitutes for people who seek that stuff.

Prohibition just doesn't work. Why haven't we learned this from the 20's onward?

ahhh I just said for excitement, but you are right that they're also recreational drugs. 1 cigar a week and maybe 2-3 glasses of beer or wine a week as well.

It's funny how a lot of people don't seem to consider alcohol or nicotine a drug......I mean few things are as addictive as cigarettes and they're almost subconsciously suppressed in these types of discussions.

This is why cocaine, marijuana, and amphetamines should be legal and regulated. People are going to get high, no matter what. If you provide them with well regulated, pure drugs for them to use, it reduces the harm they do to themselves. And with regulation comes tons of money for common sense drug treatment and harms reduction.

The swiss had a huge heroin problem; then they decided rather than prohibit it that they would provide addicts with pharmaceutical grade "fixes" twice a day with clean sterile needles.

Now they don't have so much of a problem. Treatment for those that need/seek it rather than jail time. It's cheaper and even better for the economy!

Completely agree. In addition, regulated, taxed drugs would also have other benefits:

1) reduce violence on both sides of the border
2) police could focus on more important crimes
3) courts wouldn't waste billions a year in drug-related cases
4) prisons wouldn't be overcrowded with drug felons so we could keep the murderers and rapists in them longer
5) we wouldn't have camps of people growing pot illegally in national parks (with use of chemical fertilizers, rat poisons, human waste, etc.)

I know what you mean - I just h.ate it when I hear about bad violent offenders getting out of prison early so they can make room for someone about to be locked up on a long mandatory sentence for something that shouldn't be illegal in the first place. I don't know too many people who haven't tried weed but I hardly know any who went on to anything harder (and didn't it start with the real gateway drug in the first place, beer?) My grandfather, rest his soul, smoked to deal with side effects of chemotherapy. To think he could have been locked up strains my sense of compassion.

All toking on a joint and calling out for good thie lies and corruption that continues to keep cannibis illegal in this A$$ backwards country of ours.
