"Add in that term limits bar Brewer from running for re-election as governor and that she's said she won't run for Arizona's open U.S. Senate seat in 2014."
When I first read this article, I thought, "well, of course she's going to run for the U.S. Senate because Jon Kyl has indicated his intention to retire.  But, Jan is now 67 years old.  She will be 70 if she intends to run.  And while the residents of Sun City AZ must love being represented by senior members of AARP like John McCain and would probably welcome her candidacy, she seems to have set her goals differently.

Governor Brewer has infuriated most of the moderate and progressive voters of her state.  She has demonstrated a deep seated contempt for those citizens of Mexican ancestry by commenting that they are responsible for an increase in violent crime.  And she has also indicated a contempt for the truth because crime in Arizona has steadily declined, and has repeatedly stated that murder victims found in the desert had been decapitated.

So, with her retirement approaching, she has decided that like the coin collector who becomes obsessed with owning every single coin of a type, she has decided to enrage the only group in Arizona that she had currency with--the lunatics fringers on the right, the Minuteman militia groups, and the Teapublicans.  Go for it Jan.  Go for an approval rating of less than 10% by 1913.  Youkindoit!

She isn't too worried. All her friends at the privatized prisons will take very good care of her.

"The budget is largely built on a Medicaid spending cut that Brewer has proposed be accomplished by reducing enrollment by approximately 140,000 people through freezes on new signups for certain categories of low-income adults."

Reform is a nice sounding word but when republicans say it it means one thing..... cuts. In this case cutting the number of people with medical coverage. That's progress for you......

I guess Jan thought Sarah's idea of death panels was a good one. She set up the first one in the nation.

Thank you Arizona conservatives for truly showing us who and what you really are--now pass out the sheets and burning crosses.

I am not a fan but thank goodness she vetoed the bill allowing guns on college campuses. I am sorry but guns just invite more pain and suffering. They absolutely have no place on a campus. Just my opinion.
12:56 PM on 04/21/2011
Agreed. #86. They have NO place on campus. Did we not just have the 12th anniversary of Columbine. Do these cons remember VA Tech? Or do they just not CARE about the people?

Cannibals! They'll end up doing the same to the people they elected to Congress. You have two choices in Congress, learn the art of comprise, with or without giving up your ideals, or be marginalized. Their constituents won't let them comprise, so either way, they'll lose.

Gould is proving to be rather pathetic. Hopefully there are enough sane people in Arizona to vote this guy out the minute he comes up for re election.

Wow, a politician that fires up the extreme elements of their party to get elected then abandons them once it office. Like that's never happened before. Well, at least not since Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Obama. It always comes down to money. AZ stood to loose tourist and convention dollars. That's what Brewer really cared about.
08:56 AM on 04/21/2011
That's what she should care about, all the rest is ideological bullchit.

The Right has left the world of sanity.....
07:03 AM on 04/21/2011
The GOP has completely gone off the rails - and yet - there is a large percentage of the population that actually believes the nonsense coming from them...
Seriously - - what has this country sunk to when a person like Brewer is attacked as not being conservative enough.....Really??? Brewer????
Given that she's had her moments of looney tunes - - I really have to wonder about the people who are now attacking her......and we wonder why the US is no longer leading the world.....

In our aging society this Arizona government has not produced one single innovative measure to deal with their failing economy.  The old people are waiting to die; the young people lack the authority and imagination.  The unemployed buraucrats and privagely employed workers  keep their mouths shut and their fingers crossed that a declining organization may somehow recover. The governor tries to hold a disintegrating society from flying apart.
