Their indoor air, with an abundance of secondhand smoke, is probably healthier than the air they breathe outside in many factory dominated cities.

That is probably the truth, which is really sad. I've been to China twice and it really is a dirty, filthy country. I asked one of your tour leaders why so many of the youth smoked and she answered they want to be like the "West". But smoking is more of a problem with males than females, 60% of Chinese men smoke. I guess this will eventually even out the gender inequality there from the one child policy.

Depends on where you go, and which home you go into. Singapore is mostly Chinese, and it is very clean.
