Apparently, she doesn't have to be. She's got "it" according to the fashion world and its fans. Good for her.

But how much do the models get to keep? Taxes, agencies, managers, staff and all who get a cut.

Yeah they would definitely have their share of payments to make out of that. Still nice coin though :) It's not the end either, they should continue making good money for years, and hopefully invest it right or make interest off it.

It's the same deal as, say, basketball players. They have physical attributes which make them valuable commodities and they're paid well for those attributes. Smarts ones parlay that into business careers as they get older (e.g. Kathy Ireland).

So, be snarky all you want, folks, if you were 5' 11" and had fabulous cheekbones you'd be out there with your portfolio too.

No basketball player makes $45million in one year let alone one game and certainly not one that is 5'11". It is the same old saying that makes women go to the ladies room together and berate men about. SEX SELLS! Did anyone force any of them to prance around half nekked? How many women would buy a dress modeled by....oh say Candy Crowley, or maybe Barbara Starr? They are women. and they both make well well over a $ million each.

I don't understand what you're saying. Sports stars who have endorsements and are in TV commercials, and have side businesses, certainly make that much.

And, of course sex sells, to both sexes. It's a good thing. All humans like to look at hot attractive people. Personally, Gisele is my #1 lesbian fantasy so I'm just fine with her being as naked as possible. ;)

It'll be interesting to see what happens when, in the next 50 to 100 years (assuming we don't make this planet uninhabitable for humans), achieving physical beauty becomes as trivial as cosmetic dentistry is today.

Most of us won't be around to see that, but most of us will be around when computer graphics advance to the point that using people for models isn't even done anymore. Model photographs are already maybe 5% to 25% computer graphics, and at the current state of advancement - it should hit 100% in the next 20 to 25 years. Another 5 to 15 years after that will probably see the same shift in film - at least technologically. I imagine we'll still want our celebrities to at least bear a passing resemblance to what they look like in movies - but then again no one boo'd the actors from Avatar for not looking more like their characters in the movie... so perhaps not across the board.

In the meantime, enjoy the hell out of whatever looks you have. We'll never be more beautiful than we are today. And by the time our looks no longer matter to those around us, they won't matter to us either. :-)

I don't know. It's already been going on for thousands of years Just as long as that is our primary drive, my guess is that it will continue.

I really hope that young girls are not looking at this and deciding that modeling is the career for them. Most fashion models are paid very, very little. After the agency takes its cut and covers "expenses," (models usually have to pay their own travel expenses) there is not much left.
Agencies are also notorious for holding onto the model's pay for months.
03:45 AM on 05/07/2011
Girls that want to model don't care. THey want to be in magazines and get to become famous models.
