People have been predicting the "end of the world" for a long time now.

I guess those who do it are playing the odds based on the old adage:

"Live each day as if it were your last because one day, you'll be right".

I was raptured away but found that heaven didn't have converter boxes for digital broadcast TV (digital being the work of the devil) so I came back.

Same as the last time his predictions failed to materialize... simply come up with a new date in the future

No one in Topeka was taken. Not even the Phelps clan. Although we did have quite a bit of tornado activity.

Nice to read a non-hostile article about the Rapture. Yes, most of us who hope for it (but not on May 21) have need of compassion. We have things like poverty, loneliness, bereavement, cancer, atrial fibrillation, etc. Or if none of those, deep internal angst about our world, both immediate world and wide world.

Most Rapture believers say that it will happen in a "season" we can discern by the signs of the times, but probably not on a certain day. Some think it will come on a Feast of the Jews such as
Yom Kippur or Tabernacles, because most believers are students of the Old as well as New Testaments, even though only a few are actual "Jews". And yes, there are other famous "signs"
predicted, such as Messianic Rabbi Mark Blitz's "bookend" Eclipses coming up in a few years.

Some believe it will come "pre-Tribulation", some "mid-Trib", some near the very end of a seven year trib. Some say the trib is NOT seven years....you can see how many are the thoughts.

Camping's prediction is VERY atypical, fortunately. Pray for his people who now need the compassion you suggest.

Most of us believe that even if the Rapture never comes, Jesus will.

They need to learn to have compassion - hoping to see billions of people in agony just so their lives can be better - they need to learn compassion, not have it extended to them.

I think it's their ( evagelicals ) need to be proven right, that makes them want it so bad. Trust me I have them in my family. According to my in-laws Jim Bakker went to prison so he would have 5 years to study revelations. Every time one of their bench marks passes they get a lttle crazier. 1984 nope, 2000 nope, today nope and crazier each time and more anxious for it to be true. Sad.

Sympathy? Sorry. Disdain and disgust are what I am feeling toward Camping, and pity (not in a nice way) for the people so down on life they allow themselves to be duped by him.

I really do feel sorry for them. Especially the retired guy who spent his $140k buying billboards to advertise the event. I hope Camping reimburses him out of his $70m. Alas, I think he will not. WWJD? Probably not this.

I wonder where Harold Camping is now. Why he is not coming out to give the explanation of what's been going on. Christian Post wrote this, http://www.christianpost.com/news/harold-camping-should-publicly-repent-says-southern-baptist-50370/. He really should read it!

This guy was a media creation. Yes, some folks believed him, but no remotely mainstream Christian leaders. The haters love to choose the leaders of the groups they hate...set them up and watch them fall.

However, many very popular evangelicals are "End of days" believers.

Whatever happened to the great idea that the humble and meek shall inherit the earth, make peace and turn their "swords into plowshares"???

Oh wait, I know. It's been revived, and expanded upon.

It has become a greater and more practical idea that the humble and "meek sheep" cannot inherit the earth unless and until the proud and militant "hypocritical goats" are judged and rebuked by the modern son of Man.

The question is, who and what is the son of Man? Glad you asked. His message is at http://messenger.cjcmp.org

Ah yes - that's it - a "more practical idea!"

And what could be more practical than rebuking hypocritical goats?
01:50 PM on 05/22/2011
It is practical, and it will shock certain Christians who've been misled.

The son of man blesses the “sheep” who he sets on one side because they fed him when he was hungry, gave him drink when he was thirsty, took him in when he was a stranger, clothed him when he was poor, cared for him when he was sick, and visited him when he was in prison.

But, on the other side he sets the “goats” who he rebukes because they have not cared for him like that.

Jesus said that both the sheep and the goats will ask the son of man, “When did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison?” And the goats will further ask him, “When did we not minister unto you?”

Then Jesus said that the future son of man would answer them all, saying: “As you have done to the least our brethren, so you have done to me.” (Matthew 25:31-46)

Jesus also said that when the son of man exposes and rebukes the hypocrites, they would cry out to heaven, saying: “Lord, Lord, have we not cast out devils and done many wonderful works in your name?” But Jesus said the son of man would say, “I never knew you, depart from me, you that work iniquity.”

This is an excellent article and one that I hope all will have the "ears to hear" and the "eyes to see" as they read it. When the fundies know better they will do better, however for now those who have evolved beyond the lizard brain that do know better, it is time to do better. The following quote speaks to countering exclusive thinking with inclusive thinking.

“He drew a circle to keep me out,
A thing of scorn, and a thing to flout.
But love and I had the wit to win:
We drew a circle that took him in.” —Edwin Markham

It is easy to love the loveable, everybody else - eh, not so much. Love 'em until they can love themselves again.

Pass 28th Amendment: Separation of Cash & State

Such people are no different than those who used to toss children into Baal's fire, something they'd happily be doing today if they weren't denied the opportunity to do so by the society they wish so ardently would end by midnight tonight.
09:16 PM on 05/21/2011
I do not have the same sympathy for these people. They WANT the world to end to punish those they see as godless. These include, but are not limited to gays, liberals and the so-called intelligentsia. I am sorry that the world has become too complex for them. Here is a thought: perhaps, they might try dealing with it head on with dignity, hope and love--the ostensible tenets of Christianity.

Well,
now i'm really, really concerned.
I went in and saw the Doc.
And she confirmed it. I'm not ruptured.
I asked, and she said, no. No rupture.
Now this had been predicted for a long time.
And I was all ready for it.
Bought a truss support and everything.
But, no, no rupture.
Ya just can't trust those darn predictions anymore.
