and only an idiot does not get the power of words.
words are the ideas and ideals that inspire and degrade the human race.

And how does that help anyone? This PC nonsense makes pariahs out of decent people that haven't read the PC book cover to cover.

Fortunately our progressive friends are creating indoctrination camps out of our schools. Forget reading, writing and arithmetic, that is so yesterday.

Good start. Then we can get cracking on the "G" word that was outlawed in Tennessee. How about dropping the "L" word (love)? But, hey, South Carolina: no way can you outlaw the "N" word. If you did, great swaths of you would fall mute.

Oh. That isn't the R word I thought they were talking about. I thought it was the political party.
Well, maybe it's the same.

Always disliked the thinking behind these sorts of proposals, the idea that just by doing away with or changing the name of a condition will somehow change the condition itself. I actually think doing stuff like this is potentially more hurtful than what we already have.

you may be right. We have a tendency to sanitize the language around uncomfortable topics. This has the effect of neutralizing the discomfort which makes it easier to forget there are people behind the label. Remember George Carlin's bit about PTSD.

i guess according to many, shellshock and PTSD are different (one acute, the other chronic). but carlin's point remains. i love that bit. one of his rare late routines that had all the energy of his early work.

Yeah, I think he was spot on when he broached that subject. Got into when he talked about how we refer to children sometimes, too, where we won't say the child is average, but will instead say he's "minimally acceptable".

I am by no means a fan of the new politically-correct lexicon, but this is an archaic terms in reference to humans. And it has the sting of mean-spiritedness behind it, when used. Use it in its proper syntax.

Like queer and gay. At least those words have been taken up with some pride by the gay community. But I still miss having them as non-sexual adjectives. I guess that shows how old I am that I even remember when they WERE non-sexual adjectives.
