While Hines is very obviously a nice guy, I don't think the best dancer won this season. That was Chelsea. IMO, Hines and Kirstie were on the same level in terms of dancing skills. If you looked at his dancing, he didn't deserve the perfect scores that he got. He had great dance routines (thanks to Kym) and a great dance partner who made him look good. And he had swagger, which for some reason, blinded the judges this season. Given the final 2, I would've definitely gone with Kirstie. The female dancers are the ones in the spotlight and she consistently had harder work cut out for her than Hines. He just had to make his partner look good.

The Steeler fans beg to differ with you. It's votes that count and obviously yours did not. GO STEELERS.

tjpw0850: Agreed! I don'k know what show Holly was watching but I though it was a toss up between Hines and Chelsea. Kirsty could dance and she gave what she got, but, she was not a graceful dancer and was a little on the sloppy side. On the other hand, Chelsea's youthfull energy was fun to watch, and Hines' elegance was an asset to the show not to mention that 1000 watt smile; so I think the voters picked the right couple.
09:14 AM on 05/25/2011
Absolutely! I think Hines did a great job and apparently I wasn't alone in that thought.
08:35 AM on 05/25/2011
Kirsty Alley should have won, but a bunch of meathead, steelers fans were busy voting for this boring jock. Who knew sports nuts watch dancing with the stars.
09:10 AM on 05/25/2011
Born into this, Kirstie is popular because she was good on "cheers". she has no dancing talent what so ever. The right couple won the competition. In my opinion, there were many contestants much, much better than Kirstie who were eliminated. Your gal lost and you can't take it. give applause where it is do!! Congradulation to Hines and his gal!! bravo

Kirstie is a wonderful dancer and she did well to come in second. Hines was good also and has a wonderful personality and personal story and deserved to win. Everyone had a favorite and it was all entertaining. Now we can move on to more important issues like who the hell won American Idol?? Does anybody care?
08:22 AM on 05/25/2011
Great article. Even the winners who are not professional athletes are athletes (and not too old). Everyone else is there for the novelty factor.

Steeler Nation sealed the deal for Hines and Kym. Bring on any Steeler and see what happens.

Hines deserved to win. Kirstie was very inspirational but not nearly as good a dancer. Chelsea was great but sometimes your partner impacts on the voting and let's face it, Mark is a very cocky guy and he turns some people off. Even his dancing is over the top and it overshadows his partner. He needs to develop some humility to get more votes from the older viewers. You look at Kym Johnson and she carries herself with class (and this season courage).
People need to stop crying when their favorite does not win. The show is an entertainment vehicle, not a sporting event and it does what it should, entertain. My only beef is that the show keeps bringing a lot of ploitical figures like Sarah Palin around and they do it to attract vienwers and it is frustrating. Regardless of a politician's beliefs (right or left) they should not have any of them involved in the show.

Any of the 3 deserved to win. I disagree with you on the dance skills front btwn Kirstie and Hines. I think they were on the same level, with Chelsea being the best dancer. Hines had a lot of entertainment value and a swagger that the judges loved, but if you carefully watched his dancing, there was nothing about it that was superior - skill wise. Unfortunately, the judges seemed to have graded him on a curve, which would've made it impossible for Kirstie with all her fan votes, to catch up and make the point difference when judges' scores count for half. I'm not crying here. I wanted Kirstie, while recognizing she wasn't the best dancer (that was Chelsea). Oh well. I"m just happy this season went back to unconvtroversial, good old-fashioned fun with finalists who had the chops to be there.

Me too, because last season was awful and I truly enjoyed this years season. I hated the political way it went last year.

Hines, the charmer won, loved him and Kym all thru the season, became a Pittsburgh fan, because of him. And I live in Browns town and never before waivered with my love for the team here, but Hines and his charm did me in. Congrats to Kym and Hines. Kirstie did very well also and would have voted for her, but who can resist Hines charm. This is the first time, that I followed DWTS all the way thru. I have to admit, on Monday I even voted for Kim and Hines. Who would have thought that.

Welcome to Steeler Nation.
In 95 when Modell moved the Brownies to Baltimore, we were all brothers. The Stillers fans at Three Rivers wore orange arm bands in support of the fans from "the mistake on the lake." This post could all be kumbaya, now could it?! :D

Friends of mine always go to Pittsburgh and I see how they love that city. I will accompany them the next time around. If the Steelers play ( hopefully the players and owners agree to a contract) and there are any seats left, I will see them. Until than I wish them the best.

This was my first year watching DWTS and I thought it was pretty good. I'm glad Hines won, as he was consist in his performances and very charming. Many are lamenting about his lack of grace/technical ability but I don't think that's the purpose of the show. These folks are not professional dancers nor are they expected to become professional dancers. It's about who mastered the moves and put on a good show DESPITE being amateurs. IMO, Hines Ward did that.

I am a Kirstie fan too and would have been happy had she won. Great job by the two of them!!

The nice thing about Maks is that he takes whomever he's partnered with as far as they can go...and he is sooooo handsome!! :)

The best dancer won, Congrats Hines. I was rooting for him at the same time admiring Kristie for her grace. That is what dance is about, I can not recall any dancer who has improved so much as Kristie Alley .

Apart from "who should win", my favorite dancers were Kirstie for personality, Kim for tenacity (I really respect her) and Hines for charm. Chelsea is cute (I'm sorry, but that's the word that best describes her happy, spunky personality :) and was technically the best dancer.
