Japanese Retailer Sold Beef Contaminated By Radiation

Aeon, the second-biggest retailer in Japan, said Sunday that it had sold beef from cattle that ate nuclear-contaminated feed, the latest in a series of health scares from radiation leaking from .. Fukushima Daiichi...
snip-
Aeon said it had sold the contaminated beef at a store in Tokyo and at more than a dozen stores in the surrounding area. Radiation continues to spill from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant more than four months after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
Aeon, which trails Seven & I Holdings in the retail sector, said in a statement that cattle from Fukushima Prefecture were given animal feed originating from rice straw that exceeded the government’s limits for radioactive cesium.
Aeon said it had sold 319 kilograms, or 703 pounds, of the beef from April 27 to June 20 at one shop in Tokyo and at other shops in Kanagawa and Chiba. Aeon said it had also sold the beef at outlets in Shizuoka and Ishikawa, in central Japan.
The retailer said it would start to check beef shipments from all areas that could potentially have contaminated feed.
snip-
“The most likely outcome is that we will ban beef shipments,” Mr. Hosono, the cabinet minister responsible for coordinating the nuclear cleanup,... “We are discussing the matter along these lines. We have to ensure food safety.”

It is not uncommon for independent bloggers to accept donations in order to make it possible for them to continue blogging and provide a valuable service to the public.
No one is forcing anyone to donate, it is entirely at the discretion of the individual whether they choose to or not. This does not automatically discredit a source.

However, seeing as you are a pronuclear blogger posting on taxpayers dime and time, you hardly have much of a leg to stand on now, do you? Your time and posting is payed for by the taxpayer, which is highly questionable, unethical and possibly illegal.

Look at what just came through CaptD! Darn good stuff!
“I soon came to the conclusion that neither international cooperation nor technological advancements would guarantee human societies to build and safely run nuclear reactors in all possible conditions on Earth (earthquakes, floods, droughts, tornadoes, wars, terrorism, climate change, tsunamis, pandemics, etc.). I am sadly reminded of this turning point in my life as I listen to the news about the earthquake, tsunami and extremely worrying nuclear crisis in Japan.”

“Why not consider Three Mile Island, Chernobyl and Fukushima as warnings of greater catastrophes to come and avoid the inevitable by shutting them down, much like changing your diet and/or lifestyle after finding out that your cholesterol or blood pressure is elevated, rather than continuing down the same path until a heart attack or stroke strikes?”

“Nuclear today only generates about 12 percent of the developed world’s electricity. By instituting an energy efficiency program,” Silvi suggests, “we could fill the gap caused by shutting them all down and put this malevolent genie back into the bottle.”

Actually, there are more environmentalists like Monbiot and Lynas moving towards nuclear, than nuclear proponents moving away from the technology.

"Nuclear Experts" is pretty broad and vague. Anyone with a laptop and internet connection can make that claim without backing it up. People here who know nuclear intimately, understand the nuances.

Better be prepared to walk the walk, if you want to talk the talk.

Italy is just following Germany. Always have, until the Americans came and they switched sides.

People have been saying this for ages "The world is flat". "The earth is the center of the universe".."the moon is unreachable"...

Then people disprove it with exploration and technology.

People are hung up about the 100% - or "zero risk". This is a logical fallacy of risk aversion.

Risk aversion is all in the brain. It is generated by Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Risk_aversion

Attitudes towards risk have attracted the interest of the field of neuroeconomics. A study by researchers at the University of Cambridge [7] suggested that the activity of a specific brain area (right inferior frontal gyrus) correlates with risk aversion, with more risk averse participants (i.e. those having higher risk premia) also having higher responses to safer options. This result coincides with other studies,[8][9] that show that neuromodulation of the same area results in participants making more or less risk averse choices, depending on whether the modulation increases or decreases the activity of the target area.

Atom
"Risk aversion is generated by fear, uncertainty, and doubt."
The other day you said that those 'not on intimate terms with nuclear reactors', just don't understand how many studies are done to make sure the reactors are safe. Isn't that the same as 'risk assessment'? If this happens, or that happens, the result will be X. But this and that will never happen at the same time, so say you and yours.
Well, Fukishima is a perfect example of mother nature turning all of your risk assessments and safety factors, and turning them to dust. The ongoing devastation in Fukishima is not going to peter out any time soon. Millions of lives are at stake, the majority of them are children. Think about that when you are trying to sleep at night.
