I have also been wondering which Mega Corporation is attempting to take over this time, in retrospect; we cannot do any worse than GE has so far!

Then again, if the largest percentage of public media info provided is in support, it just may be another GE strategic move!

This is looking more and more like a set up. The rich businesses and the republican leaders and some blue dog democrats tried their darndest to make sure they didn't have the money for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

They should not get by with it.

Senator Bernie Sanders says this about the plan: "The plan would result in devastating cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and many other programs that are of vital importance to working families in this country. Meanwhile, tax rates would be lowered for the wealthiest people and the largest, most profitable corporations.

"This is an approach that should be rejected by the American people."

I love Bernie, but I don't see that in this Plan...the POTENTIAL, perhaps, if the LEGISLATION to meet the goals are that but I really don't see it.

If someone can show me the place where you can see any details on the "Plan" I am open to look at it. But from what I can see, there has not been a CBO markup on it so it is difficult from the "Outline" of a plan to tell that it is going to do anything immediately. It makes "broad" statements that are yet to be worked out and voted on and is over 10 years...how many things are going to change in that time period?

I prefer to look at specifics. What is the "plan" going to do immediately (I find nothing) and what changes will occur as the legislation is worked through.

I am with Bob Schieffer; get the debt ceiling raised and then work out the plan as we go along.

The plan calls for the deficit to be at 30% of GDP...I think that that is doable if we can get people back to work which will ALSO help the deficit AND the debt...again,, it is about JOBS...more people employed the more revenues we will have...from people that will be glad to do so.

Social Security is not a welfare program! People have paid directly into that fund...not the government. It is not a debt. But our government has used money from that fund for other purposes and that SHOULD be considered a debt that they owe to the SS fund. Makes me wonder why our legislators say SS is a burden...yes it is...to them...pay up.
03:22 PM on 07/20/2011
Then Obama should have no trouble paying SS recipients out of that "fund".

As far as I can tell, it doesn't tell any details about where the spending cuts will be.

The details will be decided by committee.

That is what the blue dog democrats and Obama want. Hurt us but have some one else to do it while they act all innocent. Like killers, they want to hire a hit man.

The blue dog democrats and Obama are leaving their fingerprints everywhere there is a suggestion of a cut to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), who chairs the House Budget Committee, however, offered a less positive reaction to the plan during an appearance on Fox News' "Hannity" on Tuesday night. He suggested that the numbers "don't add up."
--------------------------------------------------------------

Dude, anyone who puts a 2% unemployment rate in his proposal doesn't need to talk about "numbers not adding up".

We need to calm down. It ain't over till the fat lady sings. Since Obama said he "liked" the gang of six plan it means the Republicans will hate it. They will continue to look like the fools they are and Americans are going to blame them foe ALL if this. 71% of Americans support a balanced approach to include revenues and if the GOP does not want to commit political suicide, they better get their act together. Boehner needs to tell the TP freshman class to sit down, shut up, and learn something. He is failing as the Speaker.

Sandee, I agree.  Obama is playing chess with folks who can't stack checkers.  I think he is a cagey political operative.  He is WATCHING them fall on their swords, as they trip into oblivion, and we won't have to worry about the 'gang of six' plan, I'm thinking.  Remember his correspondents' dinner- slashing of trumpster?  He can 'take it' and he can dish it out, but he 'serves' it COLD...after calculating where and when it will have maximum impact.  Remember OBL?  VERY cool, and that took courage!!  What if that action had FAILED?  We wouldn't have blamed the squad...it would have been HIM on the block.  If he throws us under the bus, there will be riots.  I don't think he DOUBTS that.

At the end of the day, Cantor and Ryan (Little Eddie Munster) http://www.munsters.com/eddie_munster.php
still have to approve, or as more than likely, disapprove, what comes out of the Senate. Boehner has no whip for this 'suicide is painless' crew.

I still think that Obama will have to draw on emergency powers via the 14th, or fold, and get either a temp deal or eat crow on taxes and take money from grannyand grandpa-ME!

I vote for pushing GOPers off the cliff and using emergency powers. Sorry that big biz will suffer, but dealing up my SS and MC is untenable. They can feel the pain of how we vote in 2012 if we end up paying the bill after Big Donors rolled the country over a cliff at the casino during the Bush years.
