This is going to be the most epic band of midgets to be witnessed on the big screen since 'The Goonies'. They all look like they got their very own dwarf-y attitude goin' on.

Not midgets, dear. The actors are made to look short with the same sort of technical magic they used to make the hobbits look short and Harry Potter's Hagrid look 8 or 9 ft tall.

I know, just being facetious. I think dwarves are great!

Are you kidding?

Dwarves are generally taller than hobbits but shorter than men.

Easy to spot, eh? The fourth paragraph lists the actors and their roles in order.

Fili and Kili and Thorin are all more eye candy than I was expecting.

I didn't read the hobbitt, I'm at loss, but I'm sure it will be a competent production by Jackson. I don't expect more than that, tho

This is discrimination. They should have used real hobbits.

Wouldn't the more PC thing be to cast dwarves as dwarves and hobbits as hobbits?

I understand them not casting a real wizard as Gandalf as many of them would be busy with Harry Potter filming/promotion.

In Tolkien's version Dwarrows are known for their beards.
According to professor Tolkien, even Khazad women had beards.

I'm equally confused. They all have beards in the picture I'm looking at. Above. On this page.

Gosh I hope you are wrong but I know how right you probably are. Legolas and Gimli were hardly more than comic relief in LOTR. I can easily imagine Thorin along side eleven comic relief characters in this film. At first I was glad when Jackson was brought back in but after reading how true Del Toro was planning on sticking to the canon (eg. if an animal talked in the book it is talking in this movie even if it messes with the first films) I was like, oh no we might have just lost the only person who could inject more true Tolkien into films like this. Jackson took a lot of the magic (figurative) away in the first films and The Hobbit was just as magical. I hope things like a talking Smaug don't go the way of Tom Bombadil. I am not complaining because I respect what Jackson has done and so many could do SO much worse, but Del Toro was in there already and at this point in retrospect it looks like the problems the studio had with him was that he was sticking TOO dogmatically to the books for their taste. I hope we are both wrong. But again it is just a movie.
