Here's another of Obama's Noble cause, utter failures. Throughout July, a whopping 125 Chevy Volts were sold, making the seemingly low 281 units sold in February a groundbreaking month. America is totally breaking the back of foreign oil. The Chevy Volt is leading the way.

Seriously, what else should we expect as long as Republicans are keeping oil prices artificially low with subsidies to the gas and oil racket? Let the consumer decide by letting us pay the true price of oil, gas, and coal for once. I think you'll see green energy stocks rocket through the roof.

There will always be some failures, but at least we have a President who is trying. That is more than can be said for the wimpy whiny republicans like boehner with no ideas for JOBS. Worst speaker of the House ever, so weak he is bossed around by cantor and the TP.

The Government Accountability Office has made rules and regulations to ensure that loans guaranteed by the government are paid back. Why were these rules bypassed?

Some things just don't go exactly as we planned. And no one deserves to be blamed for unforeseeable failures. But this situation, there were so many red flags that were ignored. This was entirely foreseeable.

Ask the pre-2009 President and Congress; they bailed out banks and major corporations with NO strings attached. That was a mistake as those entities are not required, and have no intention of repaying the national cofers that saved their wretched rears.

Initially, Senator Chris Dodd was identified by Treasury Department spokesmen as being responsible for the inclusion of the provision exempting such bonuses from the executive pay limits clause of the TARP. However, on February 14, 2009, the Wall Street Journal published an article, Bankers Face Strict New Pay Cap, discussing a retroactive limit to bonus compensation inserted by Chris Dodd into the TARP bill that passed in the Senate.

The same article went on to mention that Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Lawrence Summers "had called Sen. Dodd and asked him to reconsider". When the bill left conference, Dodd's provision had been removed and replaced with the explicit exemptions lobbied for by Geithner and Summers.

As Dodd explained in his March 18 interview on CNN, at Geithner and the Obama Administration's insistence he removed the language he had himself inserted and replaced it with Geithner and Summers' loophole, which thus allowed the bonuses which formed the basis for the AIG scandal.

Solydra really is the "poster child" for BO's green economy program...well-meaning, perhaps, but ill-conceived, ineptly implemented and another example of the failure of a "big government" approach to fixing the economy that squanders taxpayer money.

You mean a private enterprise getting hit hard by Republicans' efforts to make dirty energy cheaper and lengthen its lifespan as our sole energy source? On a truly even playing field green energy would do very well. But when the government subsidizes oil, gas, and coal companies to the tune of billions of dollars while cutting back on the very regulations which try to guarantee us clean air to breathe and water to drink, I don't think you can really blame Obama and his programs. You need to look squarely into the mirror and at your Republican party. Squandering taxpayer money is what I consider giving tax breaks and subsidies to companies who are already making $16 billion profits. Guaranteeing a loan for millions for a company that was trying to develop technologies that will lead us into a more sustainable future? That's a worthwhile investment.
01:17 PM on 09/01/2011
I have no issue with development of alternative energy sources, particularly to reduce our dependency on foreign sources. I do have an issue with the creation of obstacles to developing the natural resources we have (e.g., oil, natural gas, nuclear) to promote our economy and to provide more time to develop alternative energy sources, led by the private sector. Not big govenment. As for Solyndra...the company was not viable and poof, there went half a billion dollars in taxpayer money.

The technology for solar and wind power in the US is not up to speed and it may be years down the road before it is. You can't cut off coal and other natural energy sources until alternative sources are ready and able to handle the load. Thats just plain stupid, but it won't stop the Obama Regime from trying just to keep their 'green' agenda going. You think Obama cares if you have heat or lights in your home? He's got coal fired power plants on the chopping block, and you should hope one of them isn't where you get your electricity from!!!

Hate to say it - Nuclear.

If we don't find a way to store sunlight and wind in really cheap, efficient batteries we're back to whale oil to see at night. Forget 52" TVs..... We'll need to charge our cars at night, assuming it isn't overcast that week.

Nuclear. The next generation is likely our only hope for 2060 and beyond.

Wait, before a Obama supporter gets on here with a comment, let me be the first to say it. Don't blame Obama and his administration, blame Bush..............In an apparent rush to push stimulus dollars out the door, the Obama Administration wasted $535 million in taxpayer funds in guaranteeing a loan to a firm that has proven to be unviable in the global market. The company -- and the Obama administration -- face charges by conservative critics that Solyndra, based in Fremont, Calif., was being supported with generous government subsidies despite clear indications that it could not survive in the competitive energy marketplace. For months, we have been investigating how and why nearly half a billion dollars in taxpayer money was committed to this financially troubled company.” OK, I am no expert in politics and procedures that go on in Washington. But where does a president and his administration get the authority to guarantee a loan to a company in the private sector. Seems to me in Obamas quest for re election by getting new voters to vote for him. We all got stuck with the tab on this one.
