I am a Southerner and I love Waffle House...In 1/2000, I was working in Raleigh, N.C., and they had I believe their worst snowstorm in history...Two doors from my hotel was a Waffle House...They continued to serve until they ran out of food!

Southern tenacity and the willingness to help in any way, sahpe or form. God bless them all!

"According to the Wall Street Journal's Valerie Bauerline, the 62-year-old Southern food chain has a longstanding reputation for staying open during natural disasters. And if a storm is too intense to stay open straight through the worst of it,"
Makes sense to me put your employee's life in danger so you can make more money.

I live about 150 miles from the Gulf Coast and during hurricane Katrina the Waffel House here was open round the clock serving food. There are several motels close to the Waffel House that were full of people fleeing the storm and they were fed at the Waffel House. They stayed open through the whole thing serving anything they could. I stayed in my house till after the storm was over but the next day when i could finally get out the Waffel House had hot coffee. And I think they were about the only business here that was open during the storm. Those people were heros

I worked at W.H for almost 12 years. People may complain about their food but when they need something to eat and W.H is the only place open..... They change their tunes real quick. Some of the best years of my life were spent in a Waffle House! I met my husband there soon to be 19 years ago. So that Awful Waffle will always hold a special place in my heart!!

I also worked round the clock for about three or four days straight when hurricane HUGO hit Charlotte.

I alway eat breakfast at the Waffle house when I travel down south. Everything is cooked right in front of you. Quick and tasty!

That made me remember a line from a song by The Bloodhound Gang, Bad Touch:
I want you smothered want you covered like my Waffle House hashbrowns

I refer to it as the Awful House, too, but it's more of a fond nickname than anything else.

I have always believed that if there were ever a nuclear holocost, the two things that would survive would be cockroaches and Dairy Queens. I guess I will have to add Waffle House to that list.

It is great to see all this muck about W.H. it makes me think there is a chance for this country. No matter what you think keep it comming . It all is very heart-felt and real.

After scanning many pages of responses here it appears to be that The Waffle House chain are filthy , the food is greasy, and there is a Bob's Chili that the ingrediants are undefinable. And yet they have remained in business for decades.People seem to get a kick out of all that and therefore stop at one anytime that they see one alongside the road. There ya go.

Just look at what you actually wrote! If Waffle House served food as you say, how would they have been able to stay in business for so long???! Anyway, most breakfast foods do have some grease,............unless you eat Cantaloupe, and Oatmeal for breakfast!! Talk about Chili, there's a place near my mother's (in another state), called "FAT RAT'S CHILI", now go there and eat Chili, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......mystery meat?!!

You need to re-read what I wrote and rub the grease outta yur eyes. You are actually making my point. Lighten up! I ate greasy food until I couldn't!

I have never been to a Waffle House. I have no opinion one way or the other. I was as Stated commenting on the myriad of comments from others that I had read and thus expressing the "IRONY" of their affection non the less.

Cantaloupe vanilla ice cream and butterscotch sauce what's wrong wit dat for breakfast!!!

And remember...cantelope without a woman.

@ northernwolff ..... I've been in DOZENS of Waffle Houses throughout the southern states and never found one to be "filthy". The food isn't any greasier than any other breakfast food restaurant, and it's always fresh and yummy, with nice sized portions for your money, and the friendliest people woking there.

And, "after scanning many pages of responses here", it appears most folks agree with me... not you!

I get it . Waffle House open good weather , Waffle house closed bad weather , Waffle house gone , really bad weather . I knew our government was screwed up but I had no idea it was this bad !
