Facebook is dominant, but if its brand went toxic it would experience viral devastation. It is currently enjoys a buffer of service user inertia/ resistance to change and a dominance of connectedness, although this may yet change...

"Keep in mind that no computer can be made of 100% American parts. Computers are made of a diverse amount of components made in countries all over the world. In fact no computer can be 100% made in any country. Computers made in China are made up of foreign and American parts too. Hard drives, processors, RAM, motherboards and many other components are made throughout the world. Some individual components are made in factories in several different countries. Because of the diversity of the supplier chain, no computer is made of parts from just one country. But when you are buying an American computer, you are supporting American assembly jobs, and also providing a cost advantage for domestic suppliers of computer components."

As a computer tech, Facebook keeps me in business by delivering malware and viruses in abundance. Please keep using Facebook, I need the money.

I sure hope Google plus can be that quality social network that can take down facebook. Myspace was terrible, facebook is good but has many flaws, but Google plus is looking promising combining the best of Facebook and Twitter.

I would check into some statements about privacy over the last year or so from the former ceo of google, eric schmidt.

I wouldn't trust him whatsoever.

Well, gemini68, I find your remark ridiculous. I doubt if anyone would lie about being on FB. If you love it or find it a necessity for one reason or other, you'll admit you're on it. If you aren't on it, there would be no reason to lie about it now, would there?

the real news is the capitalism is a PONZI scheme. Yes. Ponzi. All money is driven to the top. And now that the top has got all the money, America is screwed.

Social sites disengage people from reality and the realization that they are screwed

It is Marie Antionette all over again. instead of let them eat cake....it is let them Faceboo, Twitter, Link in to their common ignorance. That's the game.

The German's called it the "big lie"

Because, Mondayboy, Huff isn't really a social network. Anyone who posts only on Huff is posting re: a specific news item and wants to see replies and other comments re: that same item. However, a Huff poster who is a member of a social network, like Facebook, may choose to post there, too.

I'm 31, and pretty much grew up with technology. I have a FB account but I really loathe it. I don't upload any pictures up there, I'm impossible to find (mostly because I don't believe in having 10000 friends, and the fact that I'm a doctor and patients have added me in the past) and I really have to laugh at all the gullibles out there who post everything on that site. The only thing I use it for is to send messages to friends, either to get together or what have you, since it seems like no one uses email anymore for social reasons. (Although some of my friends in residency still communicate primarily through email. I guess we're old school)

Hi, Penguin -- I think we're in the minority! I still use e-mail, refuse to text (prefer voice communication when using a phone), and the closest thing I'll use to a social network is this and, as anyone with a brain knows, Huff is not really a social network, just a forum for exchange of ideas and opinions regarding world news items.

Real "websites" provide their own content that any visitor (as in no registration required) with a web browser can view. Facebook does no such thing because people have to register to view content produced by their "friends". So Facebook is not, strictly speaking, a website but rather a glorified email account.

Yahoo does put out its own various content (news and such) and you don't have to be registered. See the difference?
