It's amazing how many companies won't give you an interview unless you are working these days. Who wants to hire someone that will more than likely bail on you at some point while they are working for you.

Agree, that policy works both ways...thanks for the insight.
12:13 PM on 09/16/2011
That is ridiculous. Millions of unemployed people will bail out on you?. What if the company they worked for was outsourced to another country, what are they supposed to do, collect their unemployment checks forever or sit on welfare for the rest of their lives?.
11:56 PM on 09/13/2011
It's almost better to have it in the ad so they won't waste their time interviewing for a job they won't get.

Can anyone explain this policy? With all the job losses out there thru no fault of the job applicant, I would think there is an opportunity to get talent at bargain rates.

As long as I can discriminate against the uneducated that's fine.
11:01 PM on 09/13/2011
Can not wait for the GOP to start whining about this too.
10:50 PM on 09/13/2011
It's a lovely gesture but people will continue to discriminate, as they do now....just not openly.
10:42 PM on 09/13/2011
The problem is that people who have been unemployed, aren't being hired because... they were unemployed. This isn't fair, and it's a catch-22. I've been fortunate to always have at least one job, although often more than one, and I know I'm dead lucky. It's unfair to say that unemployment should be cut, when employers are refusing to hire the unemployed. People looking for jobs are trying to be responsible, you could maybe find it in your heart to help them out.

Just keep those regulations coming. What's needed is to make it mandatory that people are hired on the spot, first come first served, and background and credit checks illegal. At this point, most americans can't feed themselves properly, are heavily over-medicated, in debt to their eyeballs, and poorly educated. I can't speak for all business owners, but as of late I question why I even keep management on shore at this point.

Aren't the jobless already a protected class? The government provides housing, food, heating oil, cash, etc.The madness will have to stop when the productive are bled dry.

Sorry you can not have it both ways. If you are against government support of the jobless how can you defend hiring policies that discriminate against the jobless? Do you want them working or not?

So you suggest business do not hire the most qualified applicant but the most terminally unemployed... That may not be a smart business decision

Your information is incorrect. I am jobless and I do not receive housing, heating oil or cash. The only thing I get now that my unemployment payments have ended are food stamps. Unfortunately, in about three weeks, I won't have a place to live because I can't pay the rent. I've worked for 30 years as a legal secretary and cannot find a job. I have no family left and nowhere to go. Hopelessness has taken over every thought in my head and I don't know what to do.

Can we match up Republican Tea Party "people" with any other group before, during and in the future? We remember the zombie like people who used to excuse their national behavior by saying " Ich habe eine "uncle" in Chicago"! Anyone? Roland C. Woodaka

And people wonder why the government is so incompetent. Why would I want to hire someone who was let go because he wasn't a good worker. Why shouldn't I be able to hire the best candidate possible? If I take someone away from their company, then they have to hire someone else, and if they continue to take from another company, eventually a jobless person will be the best candidate. We know the government is incompetent, they shouldn't be making hiring decisions for companies.

As the Supreme Court has ruled that corporations are people why would we need this kind of regulation? Ahhhh because we all know that they are republican type people now I get it.
