Our favorite beach hotels are as different as the beaches they sit on, from a stylish tropical hideaway in Thailand to a restored nineteenth-century cedar-shingled cottage in Provincetown. But what they all have in common is their beauty--and their views over some of the most glorious stretches of coastline in the world.

ANDAZ MAUI AT WAILEAWailea, HawaiiHow’s this for a first morning at a resort: The day began with a trip out to sea in a little outrigger canoe, where I spotted a pod of North Pacific humpbacks. Then, as they disappeared from sight, I turned and watched the sun rise over the white sand of Mokapu Beach, where a lounge chair had already been set up for me.

MUKUL BEACH, GOLF & SPAGuacalito de La Isla, Nicaragua Nicaragua may be one of the world’s hot eco-destinations, but the lodgings were hippie-chic at best—until Mukul opened last year.

POINT YAMU BY COMOPhuket, ThailandHigh above Phang Nga Bay, Como’s property has a near-panoramic vista of the glittering waters below. But the real beauty here is that there isn’t much to do beyond taking a dip in the phenomenal infinity pool, followed by a nap.

SALT HOUSE INNProvincetown, MassachusettsWhat I wanted: the un-B&B B&B—a hotel both spotless and modern, a hotel where it didn’t feel like an innkeeper was watching my every coming and going. And at the 15-room Salt House Inn, I found it.
