Most people hear the word "hostel" and think of smelly backpackers crammed into communal rooms. But those people haven't seen the Generator Hostel, which opened this month in Paris. It's perfect for solo travelers who want to mix and mingle but also value their privacy, and at 45 euros per person for a single room it's a welcome addition to the budget space in the pricey French capital. Take a look at these exclusive photos from the Generator Paris, then get amped for the brand's upcoming properties in Rome and Amsterdam, which will open later this year.

The Generator is located in the 10th arrondissement, across the street from the landmark Communist Party Headquarters building.

It's also close to the trendy Canal St-Martin area, which is lined with chic wine bars and shops.

There are five room options. The least expensive are the shared rooms for six, eight, or ten and the priciest are the single or double private rooms with terraces.

Every room, from single to dorm, has an ensuite bathroom--no awkward hallway encounters expected.

The property was originally an eight-story insurance company office block and was refurbished by French architect JJ Ory.
