Do you have any important goals that you'd REALLY like to achieve this year but you keep delaying taking action on them? I mean, you put them on your list for a reason, right? So why is it that you can't seem to get them ticked off your list?
Here are 5 Reasons Why You're Likely Not Achieving Your Top Goals
1) They mean too much
When your goals mean so much that you absolutely want them done perfectly, you're most likely overthinking the "how", which is keeping you from advancing. Take a step back and try to simplify. Break this big goal into smaller ones, and remove the pressure off your shoulders. Done is better than perfect!
2) They don't mean enough
Maybe what you think is a top goal on your list actually means very little to you, deep down. Dig a little to understand yourself and what's truly important to you. You don't have to make other people's top goals your goals too. Be honest with yourself and dash the meaningless goals off your list!
3) You overbook your schedule
I know you want to do a lot. So do I! But building an unrealistic schedule will only stress and overwhelm you. Prioritize your tasks every day and place the ones that revolve around your top goals in time blocks in your calendar, and the non-crucial ones on your "nice to have" list. If you get to it, great. If not, there's always tomorrow.
4) You underbook your schedule
Have you noticed how unmotivating it can be to have a fairly empty schedule? When you reserve way more time than needed for certain tasks (like a full day), you likely end up procrastinating. There's great value in urgency and feeling like you have many important things to do; it pushes you to take action. So book up your daily calendar and reserve reasonable time slots for your top goals.
5) You don't have a plan of action
As Antoine de Saint-Exupéry said, a goal without a plan is just a wish. If you don't have a clear plan, you're likely to feel lost and confused along the way, which could keep you from advancing. Break your goals into milestones, give each milestone a deadline, and break it further into smaller tasks that can be included into your daily calendar.
