NBC 'News' Is What Fox Says It Is

What's Your Reaction:
Read More: NBC News , Politics News

Cool, NBC's mere slap on the wrist for an anchor who gave thousands to Democratic candidates simply confirms that one of our major news organizations has made a partisan choice. Lord knows we need a counterpoint to the Republican political operation that is Fox News, which now is set upon asserting subpoena power. Biased news is the new normal, and NBC has joined the crowd.

Things must have changed a lot since I left the country nine years ago. Then, biased news was the "old" normal. Things got better, then worse?

Why do I find that hard to believe?

There is a huge difference between a COMMENTATOR making a personal donation to a particular candidate, and a NETWORK donating MILLIONS to the Republican Party... don't you think? Oh... sorry. I forgot where this opinion came from...

Another tenet of journalism is citing any conflicts of interest. You were on an-air contributor to MSNBC, specifically Olbermann's show. That could inform your discussion, but here the sin of omission tends to undermine anything you might say on the topic.

If donating to a campaign of someone is considered free speech, then how you can (or anyone else including the comment leaving people here) complain about it?

Nobody ever claimed that Keith was some sort of impartial news reader.

And on the flip side, to those who believe that news anchors and other journalists should not make political contributions, I find it interesting how you think barring them making private donations to political candidates that they agree with would somehow enforce some sort of objectivity to the news.

News flash...people have political opinions regardless of their forum. I would have no problem with Keith contributing to a campaign because he is not pushed as some impartial person. I also woudl not have a problem with a Brian Williams or an Andrea Mitchell or a Megyn Kelly or anyone else from donating. The only problem I have is when the supposed impartial readers of the news (i.e. not political commentators) aren't able to separate their personal opinions and biases from the news that they are presenting to you and me. Stopping them from making private donations isn't going to suddenly make people who give their biased opinions in place of news cease their inability to be unbiased in their delivery.

Wonders why this isn't a constitutional issue. A free, INDEPENDENT press should be just as important as the separation of church and government. Never did like the idea of corporations owning radio and Tv stations especially when they're huge.

I disagree. Keith Olbermann is an editorialist. He isn't a news anchor. There is a difference in his function and say, Andrea Mitchell, Chris Jansing, or Tamron Hall. I don't hold the evening program hosts to the same standards of unbiased programming as the day time people. We know how the Schultzes, Mathews, Olbermanns, Maddows and O'Donnells believe and what they think. That is why we watch them. I have no problem with them donating to candidates. I don't think the news anchors should, though.

The difference between them and the Fox editorialists is that Fox does it all day long and Fox makes up its own facts.

For quality and attempts to remain truthful, Fox cannot compete.

ABC is biased too, and so is CBS. Even PBS skews right to keep their corporate donors happy. The entire MSM is a pro-corporate, anti-union, anti-tax, pro-war, propaganda machine.

Countdown is not a news program. It's an opinion program. Maybe you were confused about which side KO was on, but I wasn't.

i think there's a difference in one employee donating money to 2 or 3 democratic campaigns, and an entire network donating millions to the republicans.

Why is the network partisan if an employee donates to a political party? Maybe the employee is but he doesn't speak for the whole organization. We do have private lives separate from our jobs, don't we? I certainly would not presume to speak for my company politically. I'm not the boss.
