Get to Know The Civil Wars (VIDEO)

Walking through the dark, abandoned Old Vic tunnels underneath Waterloo station doesn't necessarily sound like an ideal start to a Monday, but we were excited. Getting the chance to watch new music sensations The Civil Wars up close and personal dispelled any Monday blues, and upon beginning to chat with Joy Williams and John Paul White it was clear that their charm was as infectious as their music. This wasn't any ordinary Monday, and we were about to witness something special.

The Civil Wars have had, what can only be described as, a meteoric rise to fame in the past few months -- winning two Grammys before even releasing their debut album in the UK, touring the U.S. with Adele and being picked by country megastar Taylor Swift to duet on the main single from the soundtrack of this year's biggest film, The Hunger Games. But it wasn't always an easy ride. The pair, both previously solo artists, met during what White describes as a 'blind date' song-writing session after feeling 'burnt out' by the experiences of being solo.

Williams explains, 'I don't think either of us ever thought that we'd be on a stage again, or necessarily wanted to, until we met each other and it started to make sense.'

He continues, 'As soon as she started singing, it was like I'd been singing with her my whole life,' continues White. 'I don't know exactly how to classify what it is (that we do), and I don't think anybody really does. We were adamant that the only criteria that we were going to use is if we loved it.' And, if their success is anything to go by, their fans certainly love it too.
