Tom Dixon, now almost a veteran at the most anticipated design fair of the year -- Salone del Mobile -- managed to transform The Museum for Science and Technology into an ambitious environment for innovation and culture, MOST.
Alongside a handpicked selection of designer friends and brands the space equally hosted some of Dixon's own gems such as an installation featuring some of Dixon's most beautiful lighting designs -- Luminosity -- followed by legendary Italian gelato manufacturers Carpigiani who set up a cone revamp contest with "the man of MOST" as the head of judges. In the courtyard of the Old Monastery, a part of the museum, Crane.tv witnessed how Dixon equally provided hungry design fiends with a pop-up restaurant run by Dock Kitchen's Stevie Parle.
But the icing on the cake was the collaboration with German industrial design manufacturing company TRUMPF who brought over eight tons of machinery to demonstrate how to make a signature Tom Dixon chair out of steel. To top it off, the engineers equally installed a laser machine enabling visitors to customize a Tom Dixon ruler brought out shortly before the fair.
However, Dixon admits to not objecting to a commercialized design industry, his aim with MOST was to bring back the manufacturing process to the consumers and create a sense of immediacy by creating products on the spot and ready for purchase.
