Being a mom is all things exciting, overwhelming, joyful and exhausting. Amidst the many responsibilities, personalities and emotions, it can be easy to get caught up in the day-to-day of it all and lose sight of just how amazing an experience it is. It also doesn't help when the way we mother is called into question and judged, the impetus for CTWorkingMoms' Campaign for Judgment-Free Motherhood.
In an attempt to end the "mommy wars" and replace judgment with compassion, those of us at CTWorkingMoms took on many of the issues used to pit moms against each other. Our photo shoot ended up going viral and helped spread the message that different parenting choices are OK. Just because we parent differently doesn't mean one of us is wrong. In the end, we all want what's best for our families, so why not support one another in that pursuit? Plus, it feels so much better to let go of our judgments and to give and feel support.
We could have left it at that, but our glasses aren't that rose-colored. We know how challenging it can be not to judge, because we struggle with it ourselves. But we all have the power to change the way we think and it begins by simply noticing our judgments as they arise. So, when you're having a bad day, or you're feeling extra judgy, or someone's unsolicited parenting advice rubs you the wrong way, we at CTWorkingMoms offer you our support with our latest photo campaign, "Hugs, Not Judgement." Take a deep yoga breath and enjoy some warm, loving hugs from us to you.
