The 2015 Grammy Award nominations dropped today, and the annual honoree mix of superstars and up-and-comers is a perfect sanpshot of the music that defined the year. Culturalist users are weighing in with lists of their own, and here are some highlights from today's nominations:

Record of the Year

Always an eyes-on category, and this year is no different with five strong contenders. Iggy Azalea has had a phenomenal year and will get her due (see below), but we're seeing this one going home with Megan Trainor for her unlikely, irrepressible "All About That Bass".

Best New Artist

Iggy Azalea has had a runaway year, and this category feels like as close to a lock as you're likely to see. If you're looking for an upset, you don't have to go any further than newcomer Sam Smith, but we think there just might be a different statue with his name on it...

Best Pop Solo Performance

Question: if "it's not a good look, losing self control"...then why do you do that to us, Sam Smith? All of the nominees in this category are fantastic, but when it comes to sheer vocal fireworks "Stay With Me" will be the one that stays with us the longest.

Best Pop Vocal Album

This one is going to be close...one of those categories that has so many strong contenders that we could see it going any number of ways. How do you not give the award to Ariana Grande? Or Miley Cyrus? Or Ed Sheeran? Two words: Katy Perry. The unstoppable force of "Prism" earns the top spot on our list as the one most likely to take home the trophy.
