The Ladies Take Over Fort Point

Surf industry company Roxy, which is essentially the female equivalent of parent company Quiksilver, recently sent a group of their team riders to San Francisco's most iconic surf break, Fort Point, for a brief surf session. The following video clip showcases their San Francisco adventure.

Based off the account of other surfers who were there when the women arrived, the Roxy surfers didn't get any free passes from other surfers in the water and had difficulty catching waves and dealing with both the cold water and currents. Fortunately for the Roxy team riders it was a smaller day so they didn't have larger swells to deal with. Regardless, for a surf break known for its difficulty and territorialism, to have some women come out and bring their longboards at a break that is predominantly male and aggressive deserves recognition.

This bonus video is a personal favorite. It features old surf movies of Fort Point and Ocean Beach taken from 1972-1975 on an 8 mm camera, back when surfing at Fort Point was illegal due to the military still owning bases and running operations in the area.
