You Can't Fight Something with Nothing

Here we go again with another ugly fight over the Supreme Court. They propose, we oppose, and who looks whinier? We do.

Here we go again with another ugly fight over the Supreme Court. They propose, we oppose, and who looks whinier? We do.

So is there any way to break this deja vu dynamic and get a step ahead? Time is already running out -- as Republicans and their right wing allies are already playing effective kabuki theater by moaning loudly that Attorney General Gonzales, if picked, won't be conservative enough! (Gotta admire their chutzpah...)

Well, maybe there is. I am impressed with a new web effort to "draft" an acceptable Supreme Court nominee -- a federal judge named Ed Prado. Check it out. Whether he is the right person or not, I don't know. But it's nice to see an effort that says who we are for rather than who we are against. And it would be nice if Democrats and progressives are not seen as blocking another minority candidate, especially if Bush names Gonzales.
